  • Exceptional in every way

My daughter had her wedding here and even though I would say so, this was without doubt the best wedding I have ever attended. I would like to thank all the staff at Barberstown Castle.
Every member of staff, reception staff, bar staff, waiters and waitresses were exceptional in their attention to us and I want to ensure that each of them are given a big pat on the back.
The setting is stunning and the quality of the hotel rooms match this setting. We had a huge room that included a giant 4 poster bed with an equally large bathroom. The standard of facilities is excellent.
All food during our two night stay was amazing including a fantastic breakfast.
I really cannot recommend this hotel highly enough

  • Wedding of our dreams!

My wife and I are from the states and we wanted to have a destination wedding. We started the process of planning it nearly two years prior to it happening. Being that we have never been to Barberstown we didn't know what to expect but from the beginning to the end the staff was very accommodating and helpful. As you may imagine we exchanged many emails and phone calls to verify details and pictures to make sure the place was right and planning was perfect. We felt so confident from talking to the wedding staff that we continued with the process and had a wonderful wedding for 25 guests. The moment of our arrival we were blown away by the estate and staff. Everyone was so nice and helpful. My best man brought his wife and child, our flower girl, who was a 1 1/2 years old, and the staff was very accommodating to their needs, from providing a crib, to providing a meal for her. All of our guests were pleasantly surprised with the hotel, rooms, and food. The day we got married we were greeted by Matthew who made sure our day was perfect. Anything we needed, Matthew was only an ear shout away from answering - we felt catered to and for. Matthew made us feel so special from the beginning of our day to the end of the night that we had to snap a picture with him. He recommended photo opportunities, kept external vendors in time with the planning, kept things rolling smoothly, and even let us just goof off and be us. I would highly recommend Barberstown to anyone willing to have a beautiful wedding. Special thanks to Matthew!

  • Wedding Guest

We were invited for a wedding which took place in the banquet hall. Lovely venue, well organised by the Bride with the help of staff.
My only issue was the food. Which was lovely but I had the fish but have an allergy to shell fish, the chef was accommodating. the first course had bacon, I don't eat pork, for religious reasons. They did provide a melon platter but that option should have been on the menu.
Would have loved a cup of tea at 2am, when e were in the residents bar but that was not an option.

  • Shocking.

We stayed here for 2 nights this summer and our experience was shocking. Whilst the hotel is beautiful in appearance, that is where it stopped. The bedroom was a little dated but still clean and comfortable. Overall, the service was poor but it was clearly down to lack of training and being understaffed. The majority of the staff seem young and inexperienced and were clearly run off their feet most days. We also witnessed two young staff members being berated quite openly by who I can only assume was the owner. We were shocked that he felt this was appropriate to do so publicly.
The food we ordered was tasty but very overpriced and especially considering the long wait to receive the food even when the restaurant and bar were quiet. There is a poor selection behind the bar, especially of beers and wine.
On our last day we had organised for my in laws to meet us at the hotel. However they brought their two young children and we then quickly found out that children are not allowed in the hotel! As many other people have pointed out in their reviews, we were approached by a nervous waitress who explained to us that the hotel doesn't "cater for under 12s". My sister in law's children are aged 8 and 10 and very quiet children, who would have sat quietly with us but instead we had to get up awkwardly and leave. I was so surprised that this happened especially as we were staying in the hotel.
Overall our experience was really strange at the hotel. We felt there was an awkward atmosphere almost as if we were people who had shown up somewhere without being invited. Really wouldn't be keen on returning.
