  • Great place to stay.

    by Randy M on 2018-06-18 10:26 am

We enjoyed our stay here. The only issue was the room was very HOT and they do not have air conditioning. Our room also did not have a television or radio. We did find a nice restaurant near by that had great food. The marina restaurant.

Fretheim hotel is the biggest building in Flam. Summer in Flam is the busiest time. Thousands of people are passing this place every day. If you will be lucky and it will free room for you enjoy your stay there.

Tea making facilities in the room but no safe or fridge. Small balcony with 2 chairs. Very close to the famous Fl?m Railway Station. Breakfast had a slightly restricted choice especially in the pastry dept. and, as in other hotels in Norway, the layout defies logic. There is a lovely lounge area in a modern, airy atrium as well as two spacious dining areas. Dinner is a 3-course buffet with cold meats and fish for starters including 'whale beef' and 'goat sausage'. There was a restricted choice of main course and even less choice of dessert. Disappointingly, it was all the same for our second evening. Drinks, of course, are purchased separately. Although WiFi is genuinely free, i.e. you don't have to give away any personal details, it was very weak in our room.

  • Great Location- Great View-Great Bed-Great Staff-Great Food

    by Bonefish502 on 2018-06-11 08:40 am

We stayed at the Freitham Hotel for one evening while traveling visa the railway and Fjord Boat tour from Oslo to Bergen. It was a great choice. The hotel is just distance enough from the marina to avoid the crowd noise and is very convenient from the railway.

We noted the other primary lodging choice has a view of the side of the cruise ship that docks directly in front of the hotel. We preferred the wonderful view of the Fjord and the water.

The room was not spacious but was comfortable, the bath and floors were clean and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed warm weather during our visit and slept with the balcony door open for the fresh mountain air.

We sat in the very comfortable chairs in the third floor atrium for cocktails and it was quiet and private. Most of the guests were sitting in the sun. Don't miss the 4th floor observation deck.

Breakfast was generous with a large array of traditional Norwegian dishes and included whale and reindeer and lots of herring for the adventurous palate. The more traditional choices were hot and well prepared.

Service staff at the desk were engaging and helpful.
The Freitheim has a wonderful history and provides a memorable experience. Lookout for Martha.

  • Ticks all the boxes

by travellerdavid on 2018-06-08 010:21 pm

We stayed one night, arrived from Oslo via the Flam railway and left for Bergen on the bus. The hotel has an excellent location - 5 minutes walk from the station and set back from the Fjord. We were in the newer part of the hotel. Our room was spacious (unusual for Norway) with a balcony overlooking the marina and Fjord - ideal for evening coffee/drink watching the sun trying to set!! The room and bathroom were all very well equipped. We explored the older part of the hotel and discovered the old library, older sitting areas - was fascinating. In the newer part there is an atrium with stairs up to a glass cupola with great views all round. The buffets at breakfast and dinner were extensive. There is a lot of catering for allergies as gluten free, lactose free, dairy free options were abundant and the staff eager to point them out. The dinner buffet enabled us to try many local specialities - we treated it as a tasting menu with small amounts of lots of things... Our bus was not until 16:15 and there was no issue about leaving our bags during the day. Not cheap (but it is Norway and the hotel is the best in town and part of the Historic Hotels group of hotels ) but an experience worth paying for.
