  • One of our favorite hotel stays...EVER!

    by Janie M on 2018-08-26 12:19 am

My husband and I took a trip to Los Guachimontones, the round pyramids in Jalisco, about 90 minutes from our home in Ajijic and decided we wanted to stay a couple of nights to better explore the area. We read the great reviews about Hacienda Labor de Ribera and we were definitely not disappointed! The grounds and surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful! Nature at it's best and the hotel itself, a 460 year old Hacienda, was truly spectacular! They have horse stables right on the grounds not far from our room and we went horseback riding for 2 hours on the day we arrived! Our delightful guide, David, knew plenty of English and we thoroughly enjoyed him AND the horses! I don't think we've ever had a better nights sleep than our first night there - we actually slept 11 hours straight! I now appreciate all the benefits of being well away from the main road! The food was great and reasonably priced. I had a wonderful 90 minute spa treatment in my room for $750 pesos! I think her name was Cuca... We met another well traveled couple there who were equally impressed with this gem of a hotel and felt so lucky to have found it - also online - however, we both ended up reserving directly thru the hotel because they gave a discount bringing the price down from the already reasonable price offered online. We couldn't be more impressed with the manager, Ziul Lopez and his wife Yelia Colin who heads up marketing and wedding planning at the hotel. My husband's career was corporate event planning, specializing in sales incentive trips at luxury resorts around the world and since we were so totally impressed with this property, I'm certain everyone will love their experience here too! FYI, our cost for 2 nights in a deluxe room, 2 hours of horseback riding, 90 spa treatment and 4 meals was around $350 US.

  • Great but areas to improve

by Bolonon on 2017-11-12 12:36 am

This is really old Hacienda from the 1600s, its really beautiful and well maintained. Each room has its unique personality, the room that my wife and I stayed was called "La Troje" with views to the garden and lake, unfortunately on the other side is the restaurant and can be noisy. Rooms have no television as common in these type of hotels, their will be a spa in the near future. I gave it a 4 stars as we had only one towel once we arrived and once they brought us clean ones, one had a stain that I reported to management that only replace it. The staff over all is super friendly and willing to share the history behind the hacienda and the historic areas near such as the Huachimontones. Food in the restaurant was good and well explained. There is a small lake within their premises thats enhances the view of the gardens outside with a couple of kayaks that be aware that you will get wet. In general, I loved the place, how friendly everyone is and overall how clean everything is, I hope management continues to focus on those details to make it a great experience.

  • Stay for a little longer.

by Paisajista on 2017-09-28 01:31 pm

We went to Labor de Ribera for only one night. We were heading to Ruta de Tequila and wanted to have a place to stay out of the "hustle and bustle" of the touristic area.
What a great decision was to select "Hacienda Labor de Rivera".
It is located on the other side of the Tequila Volcano, away from the town of Tequila and Amatit?n, which is where most destilleries are. Very close to the archaelogical park of Guachimontones ( which worth a visit) and the town of Teuchitl?n.
We rented a car and drove from Guadalajara, around one hour to Labor de Rivera. Dropped our bags and went to both Guachimontones and Ruta de Tequila, after a flash visit to the hotel grounds.
It is exceptional. A 450 years old hacienda, very well maintained and restored into a hotel. Rooms are very attractive. We selected the most basic room, which was good enough for our short stay. I recommend selecting for a moderate increase one of the biggest suites.
After we came back from Ruta de Tequila we were very well received by a waiter (we don't recall his name) who was exceptional at making ourselves feel at home. We had a beautiful and delicious dinner with ambiance music and charm.

Next day morning , we went to the desk and ask for historical information on the Hacienda, the employee at the desk had no clue (?????) . It was the waiter, again, who gave us a fantastic tour of the surrounding, including the horse stable, the chapel, gardens and some of the suites, and gave us excellent information about the state.

We had a great time at Hacienda Labor de Rivera. However, the manager or whoever was at the desk, both a woman and a man, didn't respond with the grace, maturity and devotion to his work like the waiter did. They were actually apathic.

However, we highly recommend staying at Labor de Rivera in your next visit to Ruta del Tequila or Jalisco in general, and please stay for an extra day.

  • Stunning buildings & grounds

    by Linda D on 2017-06-02 12:31 am

We had visited the Hacienda before, but only to tour it during a "soft opening" a couple of years before. Our overnight stay this spring was much too short! This is a beautiful historic property with lovely furnishings & decor -- & the service is thoughtful & friendly. The horse barns & many in-resident horses (& new foals during our visit) add to the wonderful experience of staying here & wandering about.

  • Magical

by OhFranklin on 2017-03-11 05:24 am

We spent a shamefully brief time here, but oh my. It's beautiful.
First, maybe hard to find. Our driver, who was a local, had a bit of a trouble finding it. Maybe that was his issue.
Gorgeous grounds. Enormous rooms with ceilings that are impossibly high. The courtyard area, especially in the evening, is just wonderful.
Front desk staff was friendly and nice and efficient.
The rooms are lovely, although my bathroom was a tad smaller than you'd expect with such a large room. Alas. No issues.
A bit rustic so if you require a television in your room you're out of luck. Wifi doesn't seem to work unless you are near the lobby.
Only odd note is the restaurant staff who seemingly spoke zero english. That's fine. I have no issues. But, our fluent spanish speakers even struggled with them. Was it an accent? Mumbling? I don't know.
