  • Very nice but could be better

    by Teresa S on 2018-10-14 09:19 pm

Very nice hotel where important people stay - The Rolling Stones and Madeleine Albright were there during our stay.

Given the above the issues we encountered were more irritating.

The front desk person who checked us in was full of himself. He saw my husband with me and asked how many keys we needed. I said 2 unless they don't work and he assured us they would. So of course he jinxed it and one card didn't work - no apology when we went back to get another key; just another irritating remark.

The room is large and well appointed. However, the motor for one of the windows didn't work during our first night and the in house technician couldn't fix it, so I had to sleep with earplugs that night since the window could not be closed. I mentioned to the technician that 1 bulb at the vanity didn't work and could they change it when they fix the window motor. I talked to the reception about the issues the next morning and was assured all would be fixed. The window was fixed when we got back but the vanity light bulb was not - no note as to why not and was not fixed throughout our stay.

The room was very nice and had a big balcony from which we could see the holocaust memorial. The walk in closet was large though perhaps could have a few more hangers. The bathroom was large with separate tub and shower, with nice amenities.

The breakfast buffet had an extensive selection and everything was good. It was disappointing to see flies though.

The staff were courteous and friendly apart from the one who handled our check in. The business center staff were eager to help. The reception desk staff in the early morning of our departure quickly got someone to get us a takeaway bag with croissants and fruit when the early morning cart had not been set up when we were ready to leave.

The location practically next to the Brandenburg gate is excellent. The presence of the US, British and French embassies next door made this a very secure area. This is a grand hotel with great staff and I would not hesitate to go back but I hope they read this and attend to the issues above.

  • Looks generically luxurious and slightly unimaginative but

    by Rhea09 on 2018-10-11 03:37 am

confident and beautiful but not senselessly lavish (e.g. the flower arrangements in the lobby are stunning but not changed every day; sensible toiletries), the restaurant/lobby service, the front desk and concierge are all perfectly discrete, polite and highly competent. We did not get a top end room but we got a view of one of the skylight gardens which felt like such a treat as it is a 2nd floor room. Gorgeous old lift. it is perfectly located as well and it's hard to find the will to try out another hotel when next in Berlin. It felt expensive before the visit but not after.

  • Disappointing

by Clubglenn on 2018-10-11 02:48 am

There is nothing wrong with the Hotel Adlon, it's just not exceptional as we would expect from a renowned hotel. Staff were lovely (other than in the cheaper cafe on ground floor, more later) but we were very disappointed on check in when mentioning that we chose this hotel solely because we are great fans of the Bernie Gunther detective novels by Phillip Kerr that they had no idea what we were talking about. Perhaps silly - but surely any hotel worth its salt is aware of what it's featured in and that fans may stay because of that! (We acknowledge it's the same in name only, but still!!)

We had a junior suite overlooking Brandenburg Gate which was lovely, and thank you for the upgrade. Again, all the features we would expect. Breakfast was very good and of great variety, and the juice whilst waiting for a table and the takeaway pastries in exiting were very thoughtful.

We had dinner one night in the Michelin starred Lorenz Adlon Hotel which at $1300Aud for the two of us was extremely expensive but we loved the theatre of it, the food was exceptional, the staff absolutely a pleasure.

Cannot say the same for the roadside cafe - very slow to serve, food average and staff not particularly helpful, friendly or happy.

In summation, try Lorenz Adlon if you are prepared to spend the money, but there are probably more interesting five star hotels around.

    Dear esteemed Clubglenn,

thank you for your constructive feedback on TripAdvisor and for choosing the Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin.

We are very happy to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and particularly liked the friendliness of our team members, your Junior Suite and its view, as well as our delicious breakfast offering and the dining experience in Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer - we will gladly forward your praise to the team.
I regret reading that despite this enjoyable stay, we obviously were not able to satisfy your expectations to the fullest. Thank you for your constructive comments in regards to the coffee shop which I will address with the department head directly to ensure we continue to impress our guests with a flawless product, the highest quality and authentic, excellent service every single day! Please accept my sincere apologies for the situation described.

The Hotel Adlon has a unique and rich historic and cultural heritage and is featured in many publications both fiction and non-fiction. We are very proud of this heritage and communicate it actively to our staff, including the delightful novels of Philipp Kerr, featuring Bernie Gunther and the Adlon, who are also featured in our staff restaurant's library. Considering the vast amount of publications the hotel is featured in, I hope for your understanding and forgiveness that some employees might not have, at times, a full knowledge of a specific title at the ready.

Dear esteemed Clubglenn, once again, thank you for your constructive feedback and for choosing the Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin.
It would be our pleasure to welcome you back again and to provide you with an even more enjoyable stay and convince you to the fullest that the Adlon is indeed a very special place.

    With kind regards

  • High Class

    by Tom D on 2018-10-09 07:36 pm

The Adlon Kempinski hotel I would rate as one of the top class hotels in Europe. Everything is perfect and excellent. The staff is the most friendly staff I have encountered on my many trips abroad. We did not have dinner there so we were more concentrated on breakfast. Absolutely excellent paired with the great staff extremely enjoyable.
I would recommend the Adlon to anybody that is traveling through Berlin.
An excellent hotel bearing the proud name of Kempinski.

  • This is a superb 5 star hotel in a great location in Berlin.

    by Ute B on 2018-10-09 03:37 pm

Hotel Adlon is the place to stay in Berlin. It is located right next to the Brandenburg gate. The staff are amazing here. We had a junior suite that was everything you could want in a room. They thought of everything. The morning breakfast buffet is one the best that I have seen while traveling in Europe. The hotel lobby bar is great, the bar staff go out of their way to accommodate you.
We were at the hotel when the President of Turkey was there, but the staff at the Arlon still made you feel very special. The security and being escorted by the police was quite an experience.
