Local Attractions

Lucerne is a remarkable historic town with attractions that include the Lion Monument, the Chapel Bridge, and the Musegg Wall. Lucerne’s Culture and Congress Centre by architect Jean Nouvel is an ideal starting point for excursions all over Switzerland: the Alps, winter sports resorts, mountain hikes, steam boat trips, golf, tennis, and much more. From here, nothing is too far away, and virtually all destinations in Switzerland can be reached within a day. Historical buildings clad in frescos border Old Town on the right bank of the River Reuss.

Chapel Bridge
Constructed in the first half of the 14th century as a part of the city's fortifications and named after St. Peter's Chapel, Chapel Bridge is located within walking distance of Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern.

Water Tower
The octagonal Water Tower was built around 1300 as part of the city wall and used as an archive, treasury, prison, and torture chamber. It is Lucerne's landmark and the most frequently photographed monument in Switzerland.

Lion Monument
The dying Lion of Lucerne is one of the world's most famous monuments. Mark Twain described the Lion of Lucerne as the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world.

Rosengart Collection
The Rosengart Collection is the most recent museum in Lucerne. It owes its importance to two unique groups of works by Paul Klee and Pablo Picasso.

Glacier Garden
Guests will encounter lost worlds at the Glacier Garden, which portrays the history of Earth. Visitors embark on a voyage of discovery from a subtropical palm beach that existed 20 million years ago to the glaciers of the last Ice Age 20,000 years ago.

Lake Lucerne
Lake Lucerne is fascinating due to its picturesque landscape and historical sites. 20 boats, five of which are nostalgic paddle-steamers, enable guests to take round trips and offer endless possibilities for excursions, which can also be combined with mountain railways along the lake.

Mount Pilatus
The Pilatus experience, one of the highlights of Central Switzerland, is a fascinating trip on the steepest cogwheel train in the world to see the breathtaking panorama of mountain peaks.

Mount Rigi
Home to Europe's first cogwheel train, Mount Rigi is the queen of the mountains for many visitors, having been the most famous mountain in Central Switzerland for over 100 years.

Engelberg/Mount Titlis
Guests should plan to visit the glacier paradise with an excursion to the highest point in Central Switzerland: Mount Titlis, where they can experience a ride in the Rotair, the first revolving aerial cable car in the world and enjoy a breathtaking 360° panoramic view.
