Park Hotel Kenmare
Unspoiled lakes and rambling hills and mountains create the foundation for this ancient land that holds the secrets of thousands of years – of megalithic tombs, ring forts, and chants of an Iron Age people of a forgotten time. These misty waters shroud the secrets of clan battles, skirmishes for rights, and long lost loves that over time turned to words on a poet’s page. It is in these bayside lands that this late 18th-century Victorian railroad lodging has been restored into an exclusive and serene resort – Park Hotel Kenmare.
Park Hotel Kenmare is a 19th-century building that was constructed in 1897 by the Great Southern & Western Railway Company to accommodate its passengers. At the time of its celebrated opening, Queen Victoria was in the height of her reign, and had finally visited the Kerry region in 1861 – the first time Kerry was included on her majesty’s itinerary. Walking through the hotel’s corridors, past imposing armoires and stained glass, hints of this Victorian history are whispered to the passerby.
Comprising rural Irish elegance mixed with antique furniture, the inspired design of Park Hotel Kenmare nods to its refined Victorian past and, at the same time, embraces the lavish amenities of the modern age. Tatler UK 2011 named the hotel’s SÁMAS spa on its “101 Best Spas in the World” list, and the hotel received the Gold Medal accolade from Hotel and Caterer in 2010. A Fodor’s Choice winner in 2010 and recipient of Food & Wine Spectator’s “Best Service” award in 2010, and it quickly becomes clear that Park Hotel Kenmare offers unrivaled hospitality in an authentic, historic location.
Park Hotel Kenmare, a charter member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2011, dates back to 1897.
