Rederiet Hotell

History:
    Rederiet Hotell
 in Farsund

History

Originally built as the main office for the Mosvold Shipping Company and shipping magnate Andrew S. Glastad in 1958, Rederiet Hotell has a rich history that remains integral in the coastal town of Farsund. Established by Martin Mosvold in 1910, Mosvold Shipping Company's office was designed by renowned architect Thilo Schoder.

After 40 years of inhabiting the Functionalist-style structure, Mosvold Shipping Company moved to new offices at Gåseholmen Farsund, and the old building was subsequently sold and converted into a hotel with 12 guestrooms.

In 2008, the Glastad family bought back the building along with the neighboring Reymert House and initiated a comprehensive expansion to the hotel that would include a restaurant. Previously inhabited by the Reymert family for eight generations, the Reymert House is one of the oldest buildings in Farsund. With its two buildings, Rederiet Hotell represents two significant eras of Farsund's shipping industry: the Reymert House was part of the white-sailing era during the Kapertiden times, when Denmark and Norway was at war with the British, and the former Mosvold Shipping Company headquarters remains a symbol of the motorized shipping heyday of the coastal region.

Today, Rederiet Hotell pays homage to its heritage with a maritime theme, including naming the guestrooms in the Reymert House after historic local pirate ships of the Kapertiden era.

Rederiet Hotell, a charter member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2013, dates back to 1958.
