  • Lovely option in Hanoi

    by cheeseburger23 on 2018-10-15 11:57 am

We had the pleasure of staying at the Metropole Hanoi in March of 2018. We were booked into the new wing. Our room was small, but very comfy and well-appointed. Extremely comfortable bed and a great shower, with a lovely view into the interior courtyard.

We tried several of the restaurants and enjoyed the food at all of them. We also sampled room service several times and were amazed at how quickly food arrived and how cheerful and kind the people who delivered it were.

We leveraged the Metropole's pick up and drop off service from the airport which was in a beautiful, expensive car served with macarons and beverages. The driver was extremely friendly and safe.

We also had our Halong Bay cruise cancelled while we were there so we had to extend our stay. The hotel handled this graciously with no problems whatsoever.

The location of the hotel is excellent for sightseeing, and the hotel itself is full of character and history while having all of the creature comforts.

  • Old World elegance

    by Hello1010 on 2018-10-15 03:41 am

Big kudos to the staff of the Sofitel Metropole for an amazing 3 night stay. The rooms are elegant and spacious. I had the pleasure of staying in the historic wing. Loved all the amenities and appointments in the room. The dining was of course exceptional. I can safely say the house cured salmon is the best I have ever had, ever. And that is from someone who lives in NYC and knows all about salmon. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and offered so many choices from so many different regions it was difficult to not try everything at least once. Thank you to the team who work so diligently to afford the guests a comfortable but make it look effortless.

  • A Most Gracious Hotel

by Allthewayandback on 2018-10-14 07:33 pm

I have had the good fortune of staying at this most gracious hotel on a number of occasions. The service was always impeccable. This is a heritage hotel and the architecture is charming. The hotel takes pride in its distinguished history without too much fuss. There are historical displays and even a guided tour of an air raid shelter which reminds one that for all its present luxury the hotel was once part of the desperation spawned by the Vietnam War. The rooms in the Historical Wing are lovely with wooden floors and silky draperies. I truly appreciated the attention to detail: laundry arrives in a woven basket, the fringes of carpets are touched up with a special comb. The food is excellent, breakfast is served in a sunny atrium, the waiters remember your name. A special treat: hot chocolate served beside the pool on a chilly night with a soft blanket wrapped around you! The only negative thing I can think of is a scam involving taxi drivers which has happened to me many times. If you are coming from the north of the city the driver will bring you to the corner of Le Phung Hieu street and insist you get off there instead of the Metropole hotel entrance. They do this so that you can't point out to the hotel entrance staff that the meter has somehow accelerated and you are being overcharged. In fact the driver can make a right turn and then loop back on the rotonda to bring you to the entrance if he really wanted to. Having said this there is little you can do because of the language barrier. I suppose it isn't worth quibbling about but it can be quite irritating when this happens when it's raining. Perhaps the hotel should hand out cards that say in Vietnamese: "Take me to the Metropole Hotel Entrance and not the corner of Le Phung Hieu street!" I wonder if that will work?

  • Award winning and it's easy to understand why

From the moment you enter the hotel there is a sense of luxury, from the friendly welcome, check in and the rooms feel perfectly comfortable and Luxe. The selection of restaurants and bars cater for all from casual to the finer end, a great experience and one of the most luxurious hotels you will find anywhere.

  • Five Stars is simply not enough!

by sayfsh on 2018-10-14 01:09 pm

A five star rating is simply not enough. My wife and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon. It was my first time I check out from a hotel wanting to thank each and every single member of staff, particularly the super friendly bell boys at the entrance and the concierge!

The level of detail in this hotel is unbeatable. The rooms, the bathrooms, the quality of bedding, the quality of food (particularly the breakfast buffet which includes delicious porridge!) is phenomenal. Being in the hotel gives you a feeling of inner peace and content like no other place in the world. The feel is very authentic but the hotel is very well maintained. Our stay here was followed by long stays at other hotels and resorts in Asia (such as the Four Seasons) but my wife and I could only think of Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi.

Simply put, I will get on a 6.5 hour flight to Hanoi at some point in the near future only to stay in this hotel for a few nights!

Thank you staff and management and hope you keep it up till my next visit!
