  • Iconic hotel but some issues..

    by purrfect2402 on 2018-06-19 02:27 pm

We stayed 4 nights with a lake view room. Spectacular views and a good room. The lobby area is very beautiful with amazing fresh flowers. Staff are friendly and helpful - concierge is great. Breakfast is good: sometimes buffet and eggs to order, sometimes table service.

Strange policy: no mini bar or fridge. Fridges are available on request at $30 a night. Some issues with housekeeping. The Drake in Chicago?

  • Beautiful

Had a beautiful room. Very clean and housekeeping filled our ice bucket every late afternoon. Older hotel but very nice. We had a suite on the eighth floor with water views. Lovely but somewhat dated. Would stay there again.

  • Grand and Historic "Antique" Hotel with Incredible Dining and Meeting Space

    by Matthew G on 2018-06-18 08:53 am

If you love history and grandness, The Drake is probably one of the top hotels in the United States to find just that! If you're hoping for modern-contemporary accommodations, then it's just not for you. I hosted a company meeting at The Drake in late March of 2018 and I was very impressed with the grandeur of everything from the Lobby to the Lift (elevator). The meeting spaces were excellently laid out, the food was very good, and the staff was extremely easy to work with and hospitable.

I stayed just one night and felt like I was a VIP - my room was massive with several windows looking out at Lake Michigan - there was a living room, desk, dining area, and a King Bed in what was probably literally a 1,000 square foot room. Everything was quite comfortable and upscale, in an old-farmhouse way... remember it's nearly 100 years old - and the history can be seen everywhere throughout the property.

  • Poor customer service for HHonors members, poor housekeeping

by RoryMorty on 2018-06-17 10:38 am

I stayed 23-25 May, for two nights, on business.

I found this hotel very disappointing altogether. I usually stay at the Hilton Chicago on South Michigan Avenue, when in Chicago on business. I decided to try the Drake due to its proximity to the Northwestern Medical Campus, where I work when in Chicago. Next time, I will revert to the Hliton Chicago.

Check-in was a poor affair altogether. More people behind the counter than people in the queue, nevertheless, a queue anyway. My chick-in agent did a remarkably poor job. No interest whatsoever in Hilton Honors. My pre-check-in inquiry was ignored; at least nobody bothered to act up in. No mention of upgrade possibilities. probably one of the most unfriendly check-in's I have ever head at any Hilton Hotel anywhere. The WiFi pass-code was scrawled into the keyholder, no mention of what it was or where it was (I know anyway, but that is besides the point).

The room was not properly cleaned. the garbage from the former room occupant was still in the trashcan. Blinds hoisted up in the most haphazard fashion.... clearly everything was done in a rush, or simply poorly done.

The executive lounge is accessible by an elevator and stairs afterwards. The lounge is very small and the "offerings" rather limited.

I am not sure what is going wrong in this hotel. Lot's of little things not working correctly, which generally points to problems with management.

The location is great for the Northwestern Medical Campus, but that's about it. If you happen to get a window that actually has a view (mine did not), you might get a great view of Lake Michigan. If you expect to get any privilege (in terms of room upgrades, etc.) from being a Hilton Honors member.... good luck.

It's a great shame that such an iconic property in Chicago is so badly managed. Next time, I will return to the Hilton Chicago.
