Overview

The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam occupies six, monumental canal houses from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, all of which sit along the Herengracht or “Gentleman’s Canal.” The Herengracht is one of the three main canals in Amsterdam, built during the Dutch Golden Age when the city became the mercantile capital of the world. Suites, meeting rooms, and the ballroom are named after former occupants and historical figures who preserved these historic residences for later generations. Every guestroom, loft, and suite is unique, as they reflect the original architectural significance of the canal buildings. The Herengracht is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the greater area attracts countless tourists each year.

At Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, every guests’ comfort is of the highest importance. It is a commitment reflected in the quality and finish of each room, loft, and suite. All 93 rooms are unique and luxuriously decorated using only the finest fabrics, fittings, and furniture. Rooms feature a vast range of high-standard amenities, including a 42-inch flat-screen TV, contemporary entertainment system, complimentary WiFi, Salvatore Ferragamo bathroom amenities, and an espresso machine. Guests will enjoy the copiousness of space, with room sizes ranging between 28 and 123 square meters.

Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam also offers a variety of unforgettable dining experiences. Librije's Zusje Amsterdam is led by Executive Chef Sidney Schutte, who won two Michelin stars within seven months of opening this historic hotel’s signature restaurant. Goldfinch Brasserie overlooks the hotel’s private and historic courtyard garden, which is the largest in the area. Housed in the original vault of the MeesPierson Bank is the aptly named Vault Bar, one of the city’s most unforgettable cocktail destinations. At the Vault Bar, staff will find delicious avant-garde cocktails served in an elegant speakeasy that is firmly anchored in history. And Peacock Alley—a Waldorf Astoria tradition—is the perfect setting for traditional afternoon tea, complemented by a fine selection of sweet and savory treats made in-house.

Located in the heart of Amsterdam, the hotel is conveniently within walking distance of many cultural institutions for music, art, and cuisine. Guests can enjoy beautiful renditions of classical pieces at the National Opera and Ballet, admire the art of the Old Masters at the Gallery of the Golden Age, and dine in the restaurants of the Vondelpark. Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is surrounded by, and very much a part of, the historical fabric for the old city of Amsterdam.

Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, a member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2018, dates back to the 17th Century.
