  • Good hotel but the pictures are a bit misleading

by Ingridne on 2018-09-28 03:02 am

The rooms were nice but modern since we stayed in the new part.
The service both at the front desk and the restaurant was knowledgeable and very nice.
The Restaurant had excellent dinner and breakfast was also very good.
If it had been possible to live in the old part I had checked it before I ordered, since the rooms in the new were boring

  • Quirky but clean and roomy for a European hotel

by WalawalaFam on 2018-09-03 01:28 pm

The pictures of the manor house are a bit misleading as the actual hotel is in a more modern, dorm-like structure. We stayed in a superior room, which was roomy and convenient. We were able to check in very early with no issues and went to explore the town. Frankly, not much to do in town - we did find a shopping mall right next door and it has some nice stores. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant and would rate that a 2-star experience - decor and prices indicate upscale dining, but the food was salty and "meh". The menu is limited to a few types of meat and one choice of salmon. The salmon was over-cooked and salty. The service was rude as well.

But the hotel staff were polite and the room was comfortable.

  • Din opplevelse - vÃ¥r stolthet

    by reise-tanta-di on 2018-08-31 01:07 pm

'Your experience - our pride' is their motto. And they certainly have something to be proud of. Unfortunately, we checked in late and left very early in the morning. Certainly we did not have enough time to really explore this historic 'Herreg?rd' with its rich history. We chose to stay in one of the historic rooms. The large room was in a log cabin. When the receptionist explained that they had an historic room I certainly expected it to go further back in time than in the 1950-60. However, it was comfortable and the beds were nice. We will return.

  • Clean, Quite Rooms. Excellent Food

by Mindy and Roger A on 2018-08-25 02:10 pm

Very nice rooms with comfortable beds. The room was clean and quiet. Take the time to learn about Christian Thams, the industrialist who built this sprawling mansion. Our meals were excellent. There is a spacious area where food is served, somewhat, more formal than average.

The Stave Church which was exported to the States for the 1893 Chicago World's Fair is now back to it's home turf on the grounds of this lodging. The history of the Church is unique. It is also available for tours.

  • A little boring but comfortable

    by Eagle_dk on 2018-03-11 07:43 am

Modern and comfortable conference hotel without any surprises or excitement. Not the manor hotel you expect as hotel facilities and almost all rooms are in a modern wing 50 m from the spectacular old manor house.

The attractive parts of the new building are the lounge area with open fireplace and the restaurant. The accommodation part lacks atmosphere and is rather boring. Room (standard room) and bathroom nothing special but very comfortable. Very quiet, functional in all senses, comfy bed, well functioning aircon and wifi. All you need is there and it works fine. Breakfast not exciting but approved, wide choice, especially fish/sea food. Lunch buffet impressive and tasty.

Manor house unfortunately closed for hotel guests unless you register for a special event or you have booked a historic room for additional 500 NOK.

The hotel is surrounded on two sides by a shopping center and a huge parking area. However, rooms facing the parking area enjoy (partly) mountain views in the background. Check the neighboring "Norway House". Regular hourly bus lines 310 and 410 take you there from Trondheim city on 60-75 min, then 5 min walk from bus stop.

    Owner Response
    Dear Eagle_dk,

We would like to thank you for your visit and your overall good and honest feedback.

Regarding the Manor house we will open it for guests to look around, even though the staff do not have time to join in. Recommend future guests to ask the front desk staff. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back so we can show you around and tell the story of the building and the man who lived there, Christian Thams.
