  • Amazing!!

    by 323danj on 2020-01-18 07:52 am

This is our second time to the hotel and we have never been disappointed! What is most impressive is that staff from all departments are cordial and looking for every way possible for visitors to have a personalized stay. This is an incredible feat considering the number of rooms. Furthermore, the consistency in high quality service indicates the positive and effective leadership.

  • Spectacular building in amazing grounds and location

    by Evalu8 on 2020-01-18 03:51 am

We stayed here as part of a family group and our first impression of the building and entrance definitely had a wow factor. It was clearly built to last and was substantial, and impressive in equal measure. The check in area was beautiful and almost regal, with its high ceilings, wonderful Christmas tree, gingerbread house and decorations. Check in was smooth and friendly, with the whole process being done in about 12 minutes. Our bags were up in the room in about 20 minutes and the room was clean and modern with all of the usual facilities, e.g. aircon, fridge, hairdryer, direct dial phone, desk, tea/coffee etc.. As we had a full itinerary, we didn't spend much time in the rooms, but the beds were wonderfully comfortable, with quality bedding and pillows. We were all out like a light at the end of the day.

Overall, the hotel has a great history and a walk around the extensive grounds is recommended. They also do an interesting tour around the hotel telling you all about its wonderful history, which is well worth the time.

    Tips

Although downtown is walkable, it can get quite slippy, so use the free shuttle from outside - just remember to put your name down with the staff.

    Cons

A little outside of the town - about 1-1.5km, so although walkable limits your ability to do spontaneous walkabouts, although local taxis are frequent and cheap.

  • Christmas is at the Castle!

by garlicktours on 2020-01-17 12:10 am

Christmas - a time for joy, festivity and a little bit of magic. And Christmas at the Castle, delivers on all of these in a big way. From the moment you arrive at this historic castle, you'll be blown away by the sheer grandeur and immaculate attention to detail that goes into this hotel. Friendly Fairmont staff are waiting to greet you in the lobby, often with a warm apple cider and a gingerbread cookie, instantly you know this is going to be a great home for the holidays. Christmas wreathes sit strikingly at each end of the lobby, along with a 30ft Christmas tree, decorated beautifully. As if that weren't enough the signature replica of the hotel made out of gingerbread, icing and other sweet treats is a clear demonstration of the effort that's gone into the decorations for Christmas.

As you walk around the hotel, there are too many Christmas trees to count, each decorated and lit up immaculately, ensuring the festive feel never leaves you. Outside you have Santa's sleigh overlooking the Bow Valley River Golf Course, likely under a blanket of snow as it was for us, and the hotels very own ice rink. Here you can wrap up warm for fantastic photos, with the rocky mountains your picturesque back drop and stop by just before sunset to toast marshmallows over the fire pit. The festivities continue, with the option to build gingerbread houses of your own, visit the hotel's very own North Pole to send a letter to Santa (you're never too old right?) and if you want to do something a little more grown up, stop by Santa's bar for a signature festive cocktail. And just when you have grown up again, you'll bump into the resident Santa and Mrs Claus, perhaps over breakfast as we did and the big kid feeling will come rushing back.

The rooms of the hotel are all unique, each one different from the next (we've stayed three times and never been in the same room layout), in-keeping with the converted Castle feel. To this point, you almost forget you're in a hotel. The service is top notch, but some how it feels homely, warm and welcoming from the moment you arrive. The best part of the room is the beds. Wow, comfort! After a busy day skiing, the beds are like heaven, sinking into a cloud. One thing you're guaranteed in the castle is a good night's sleep.

A signature feature of this hotel has to be the outdoor pool. With snow on the ground and the temperature likely well below zero, an outdoor pool wouldn't be the top of your agenda, however here the whole pool is heated to bathing temperature. Just incredible views of the rocky mountains or the clear starry night sky accompany you, while you relax in pure luxury.

In a hotel so magical, you can find yourself practically never leaving the front door and with the choice of excellent restaurants within the hotel you have little reason to. One of our absolute favourites is the holiday brunch served on the weekend. A beautifully prepared, hearty and refined buffet, with such a wide array of foods to suit every palate. Another restaurant worth a special mention is Grapes. Set within a wine cellar, this charcuterie and cheese restaurant have some of the most beautiful cheeses we have ever eaten, all served with excellent wine served by a very educated Sommelier. The service here really is second to none. We like to make this a dress up kind of evening, it's a special restaurant and feels like a special treat when we go.

If you're heading to Banff, and you really should because the place is just amazing, then treat yourself and stay at the Fairmont Banff Springs. We have fallen in love with this hotel to the point where it just wouldn't feel like Christmas for us without visiting.

  • New Years in Banff

    by Kenneth Z on 2020-01-17 10:39 am

It has been a 2 weeks since we left the Fairmont Banff Springs but haven't forgotten how wonderful the stay was. The accommodations are great with breathe taking views but all of it doesnt matter unless the service matches the standards promised. I am writing this review to thank the staff that made our trip. At first our trip seemed doomed, but ended wonderful. Long story short, arrived a day late due to a delayed and missed flight, no luggage for 2 days, and also was stuck in bed for 36 hours with the flu or some virus.. well the staff was aware of our obstacles and did an amazing job to make our trip and time we spent there the best it could be.. Maxime Laplame - recommended the best local hike and got us new years eve reservations a few hours prior.. Keene Hennessey always a pleasant disposition very informative on all the local restaurants shops and traffic.. Chelsea McDonald helped us with a swift check in as we arrived very frustrated with our travels.. she made sure we had a nice room and offered extra clothes drinks whatever we needed to make us feel comfortable.. Their supervisor Tristan Shepard-Bell... hes a supervisor for good reason.. dude always keeps a smile and leads the team by example.. I know this because we stayed there for 5 nights.. and the dude is on point.. when they say a smile is like a candle he understands that.. like 1 candle can light 100 candles so can a smile and his goal was to make sure we were happy. He knew the challenges we had and he helped us overcome them to make sure we had an awesome trip..
Don't want to forget a few other key people.. Deon at the valet, Anna with room service, and Ysabel our gold room server. Realistically no complaints about the staff they all did a great job, too many to name, but the ones I did name really stuck out. Thank you for bringing in the New Year for us.. Much appreciated.

  • A really really Merry Christmas

    by Dennis C on 2020-01-14 02:35 pm

Second visit with the family. And it surpassed all expectations. This is the place for Christmas. So much to do around hotel and inside the hotel. Swim in the hot pool surrounded by splendid view of sunsetting over the snow covered mountains. The view from the room was breathtaking. Coffee shop in the lobby got inside my head and made all my favorite food.
