  • If you donât mind paying for magic

by heartofinspiration on 2020-02-19 07:59 am

f you don't mind paying for magic, then Le Ch?teau Frontenac is a must :) We just got back from a four night stay, and we all love loved the experience (and all that snow does make it more special!). We have been to way more luxurious hotels, but Ch?teau Frontenac has a charm that we have rarely found elsewhere. Their bar and restaurants are funky with great food, service and unbeatable views. Both restaurants have vegan options, we preferred Le Bistro Sam. Their popcorn with truffle oil was our favorite snack, and the green risotto favorite dinner (had it three nights in a row :). The hotel is super well placed. There's a Starbucks on premises (we do recommend Caf? La Maison Smith at Place Royale instead). The art gallery has some original works of Picasso, Dal? and Riopelle for sale which is quite exceptional. The reception area is the least impressive and that's where the crowds are. Just skip it, there are various other entrances. Au 1884 toboggan slide next to the hotel is too much fun, don't miss it.

by sheldongwizd on 2020-02-19 03:58 am

Best service, people and experience in Quebec City for the Winter Carnaval.
This Hotel is steps away from everything.
The Funicular is out behind hotel and the best shops and restaraunts are at the bottom.
Hotel Bell Staff and Valet were excellent and very freindly

  • Beautiful hotel in the heart of Old Quebec City

    by fatima5182 on 2020-02-19 01:33 am

This was the 2nd winter carnival that I attended and the 2nd time that I stayed at the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. From the moment I pulled up to the front door the entire staff was professional and friendly. The rooms have old world charm with modern facilities. We had dinner at the restaurant, Le Champlain in the hotel and I highly recommend eating there. The service was first class and the food was delicious. The location of the hotel couldn't be any better. All you need to do is walk out the door and you are in the heart of the Old Quebec City. I highly recommend this hotel and I can't wait to go back.

  • Childhood Dream to Stay Here, Hugely Disappointed

    by HeatherAK1988 on 2020-02-18 08:15 am

In 8th grade French class my textbook has a photo of this hotel on the cover and my teacher raved about the winter carnival. Nearly 20 years later I finally made it. Although we are Marriott Platinum members and there is a Marriott and Delta down the street (which by the way were less than one third the cost of this room for the same dates), I insisted on staying in Chateau Frontenac. I splurged on the gold floor because (1) we are used to the Marriott lounge and (2) with it being Carnival, I didn't know if the restaurants would be busy and we would have trouble finding places to eat.

    The Good:
    - Views: We purposefully chose a city view in hopes of being able to see the Carnival. I should have asked the hotel if we would be able to see anything, because we ended up just being able to see lights from the Carnival in the distance. Also, since this hotel is inside of the old walled city, a lot of the view include the less aesthetically pleasing downtown. I would guess the city views are better from outside the walled city looking in. The river views from the lounge are quite pretty, although there is construction and scaffolding is covering about half of the lounge
    - The Gold Floor: I believe the price difference for us for the gold floor ended up working out to about $100/day. I don't think this really saved us any money, but the convenience was worth the price. It was really great to have a place to go hang out outside of the room, away from the peewee hockey convention that was in town and all of the tourists walking around downstairs. The food was actually very good on the gold floor too - there was a large cheese board and some rotating higher end proteins like scallops, rabbit, beef, etc. Water and soft drinks were included and there is an honor bar for alcohol. There is also an nespresso machine for coffee and a selection of Lot 35 teas, so we made a habit of afternoon tea and coffee while looking at the river

    The Bad
    - Service was just ok. I'm always looking for other hotel chains to expand our horizons a bit and was hopeful that Fairmont could be a new gem, their architecture is gorgeous. But, I didn't think the service was quite up to par for the price point. I would have been happy with the service is my room were $200 or less, but at about $400 I wasn't happy. Firstly, when we checked in the Bellhop sent us to the regular check in desk even after I told him we were staying on the gold floor. I thought well maybe everyone checks in here - but if you're staying on a gold floor you can check in on the 14th floor. You need a room keep in the elevators, but you can access the 14th floor before receiving your key. I didn't go with much of a plan because I thought we had paid extra for the spectacular service, but the concierge just gave us brochures and that was the extent of it. There wasn't anything really above and beyond, but also not particularly bad - just thoroughly average. Housekeeping was wonderful though.

    The Ugly
    - Noise: These are the noisiest rooms I've ever experienced in my life. Sorry, second noisiest, the noisiest was a Fairfield Inn in West Virginia. I paid about $70 for the room so I sucked it up. This was a $400 room, why didn't I get any sleep on my vacation at that price point? I wear a Fitbit and it said I averaged <6 hours of sleep this trip (even though I had no reason not to get a full night sleep). Even when I work I get 8 hours at home. The problem was in our 4 nights of staying there we had 3 different neighbors in our adjoining room. Each seemed to be splurging on one night at this hotel and, therefore, throwing a rager to celebrate. I mean these rooms are small - how many people can you cram into one? Why does the hotel allow this? The rooms are adjoining, so there is no noise barrier between your room and the room that you are adjoining. These people were so loud, and since it was 3 different groups of people the issue has to be the construction of the building. The worst part was one group on our second to last night kept repeatedly trying to open the adjoining door. We kept shouting at them, because who does that???? That's not the hotel's fault I guess, but after this experience I'm going to write to every hotel I ever stay at and ensure there isn't an adjoining room because it was terrible. I wanted a relaxing and refreshing vacation, and I ended up more tired than I am here at home working every day.

  • A magical experience

by stayvibrant on 2020-02-18 03:05 am

Fairmont Le Chateau is so beautiful and unique! First the architecture is unbelievably beautiful and imposing. Inside there are restaurants which are all very good, an art gallery, and a shop selling upscale clothing items. It has an amazing history dating back to the early 1600"s which you can read about on large information boards in the lobby. We had the experience of traditional "Afternoon Tea" onsite and it was definitely worth the cost. Our room was cosy and well appointed. Housekeeping seemed to just know when we were leaving the room and even if we only went downstairs for breakfast our room would be cleaned when we returned. The area surrounding Le Chateau is Old Quebec City and it is right out of a fairytale, especially as we visited in Jan/Feb when there was lots of snow and Christmas decorations! Highly recommend!
