  • Wow room upgrade made our entire stay!

    by ymas2010 on 2019-08-24 010:44 pm

We arrived at the Fairmont royal York (2 adults and 2 kids) to check in to our room. The hotel was packed and the front desk staff were not very helpful. The hotel manager made up for this by upgrading our room to the 2 bedroom executive suite on the 11th floor with views of the CN Tower. Needless to say we were above the moon. We loooved the accommodation. It was so spacious. Amazing layout. Kids had their own room! Amenities and cleanliness were perfect. This was the best stay of our entire 2 weeks trip in US and Canada and we are very grateful to Mr Andrew for showing us the true Fairmont hospitality which will make us loyal customers always. He upheld the Fairmont standard and we cant wait to be back.

    Pros of the hotel:
-Location cannot be better. Right next to Union station. Walking to CN tower. Walking to the waterfront harbor. Walking to many other areas in downtown.
    - Lively hotel - the lobby is always full of people having a drink and very welcoming.
    - Noise level is very quiet when going to sleep and this is such an important factor with kids being in the middle of down town.
    - Hotel underground is connected to the union station and so has access to the station shops such as Starbucks, convenience stores etc..

  • Meh

I've stayed at the Fairmont in San Francisco so I kind of knew what to expect. Old Hollywood glamour, marble and opulence. The Fairmont Royal Oak provides this in its communal areas, the clockwork bar is nice as is the library bar. However, the rooms need updating as they are tired. The air on felt like it was from the 80's! The worst part is the bathroom - awful! The shower pressure was horrendous, like an asthmatic blowing through a straw. The toilet was stuck next to the sink and bathtub so getting the toilet roll that was under the sink was an absolute pain, not to mention the bathroom mirror that had rust or god knows what on the side.

Staff were friendly and accommodating. I had a little satchel of mouthwash I'd brought with me from the Park Royal on Tokyo, it was running out and the lovely lady from housekeeping must have noticed so she left me a cute little bottle of mouthwash for me - very sweet.

  • Visiting my daughter

    by tock24 on 2019-08-23 07:34 am

Chose this hotel for its location - directly opposite Union Station with access to the GO train [handy for our day trips] and the subway - undergoing construction at the moment so a bit of a maze!
Check in was seamless, and the elevators easy to find, smooth and fast! Our room was on the 10th floor with a window facing both the station and the CN tower - very noticeable with all its lights! Room was adequate, with all mod cons. Shower a bit dated, but endless hot water and a good pressure. Coffee making facilities were ample, and easy to use.
Staff very polite, helpful and always with a smile! Concierge team very helpful and sorted out how to get to places, complete with maps. Nice touch was the turn down service complete with a couple of bottles of water and a card outlining the next days weather - all of which carried old photos of days of yore in the hotel! so nice we kept them as souvenirs!
Didn't eat in any of the restaurants, but did have a few drinks at the bar. Service here was good, and prices reasonable.
Would certainly return to this hotel even though it is more expensive than some of the other hotels in the area - you get what you pay for!

  • Classic historic Hotel

Stayed here one night during a stop over. Beautiful Hotel and staff were friendly. Room was a little small but really nice. One touch that was special surprise was the 2 teddy bears and cookies that were placed in our room for my daughters while we were out. The pool is something out of a Victorian movie! There were renovations going on which caused me to get a little lost on entering but I had jet lag so I'm not surprised.Would love to stay here for a longer stay.

  • Fantastic stay!

We had 4 nights here in August. We had a wonderful stay. The room was spacious with a sitting area and the accessible bathroom was easy to navigate.
Special mention to Tracey Mossman who went above and beyond to help me with a special request. Tracey also provided us with some complimentary refreshments after we encountered some minor difficulties that were promptly attended to. Tracey is a real asset to your property. Thank you for help to make our stay really memorable!

The property was clean, all the staff were attentive and the location in the heart of the city was really good! We had a ball here. Well done with many thanks.
