  • Wonderful break - really feel the spirit of Norway

by baileydogg on 2019-08-20 05:06 am

We stayed here for two nights, would have stayed for a third. The location is perfect - no cruise ships docking here, at the end of a fjord, gateway to the glaciers, quiet hikes. Rooms have lovely views, but are quirky in arrangement simply because the building is old. The bathrooms are small and have their eccentricities but again - the owner Bard, has taken great pain to renovate this building without losing its integrity. Staff did tell us renovations are coming over the fall.
Stock up at the local supermarket which is a minute's walk away for your day excursions. We came by ferry but would have liked to have a car to increase our flexibility on things to do. Either way, its a great way to enjoy the calm nature of Norway away from most tourists. The hotel has e-bikes (only 2) - so would recommend they get more. Kayaking is available at an extra cost from the hotel. Other guests used the small boat as well. The town is also part of the International Book Town network which is very charming. At the end of the day, the lounge is a lovely relaxing area - outdoors or indoors. Without a car, you do have to eat dinner at the hotel as there is nowhere else - and its pricey as is everything else in Norway. The staff are very helpful and friendly - shout out to the lady at the reception who introduced us to Nicholas, the French hospitality student who runs the dinner service.

  • Not as great as the hype

    by Q3013EUvictoriam on 2019-08-16 06:24 pm

We stayed here for one night on our road trip around Norway. Our room was quite small for three. Our bed was in an alcove. To get to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I had to crawl over my husband! The setting was beautiful. The dinner was very good, but not fantastic given the price. The breakfast was very good. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was raining when we were there, so we could not use the boats.

If you are in the area. I do recommend this place.

  • Back in time

by BlueinCT on 2019-08-01 11:11 am

Arrived here after a spectacular drive from Bergen. Last night was spent in the ultra (refurbished) Hotel Norge - tonight we are back to what hotels in the countryside used to be. Homely, slighted dates and worn but delightful. From the setting, which is gorgeous to the best meal we have had in Norway, this is charming.

This is was a great experience made all the more special because of the multi-lingual, polite and enthusiastic staff. Thank you.

  • Road Trip Stop

    by peta m on 2019-07-30 11:23 am

We stayed here for one night as part on our road trip . The hotel is situated on the edge of a fjord which was perfect and they have kayaks for the guests to use.
The room was small and basic with paper thin walls but clean and we slept beautifully with the window open to enjoy the sounds of the fjord.
I thought the restaurant dinner was adequate but expensive and not as amazing as other guests have indicated.

  • Stunning location on the Fjords

by SauKothari on 2019-07-29 09:18 pm

This is a small hotel with stunning views sitting right on the fjords. The whole place has a very warm and welcoming feel to it. It is almost like staying at an extremely cozy vacation home, with lots of books all around, a piano in the lounge, and a deck running the length of the hotel. The owner, Bard Huseby, is extremely hands on with an amazing staff. The food is great, especially the 3 course dinners. They accommodate all dietary requirements. In our group we had some vegetarians and one vegan and they happily took care of this. They also have an excellent wine selection and good beer made with the local glacier water.

The best part of our stay was the view from the rooms and from the hotel lounge. It is hard to describe the beauty that lies in front of you. We could not go kayaking because of the weather, but in favourable conditions, they provide their own kayaks.

We stayed for two nights and it was the highlight of a special visit to Norway.
