  • Friendly, beautiful hotel

    by sharr64 on 2019-07-26 11:02 am

We practically had the hacienda to ourselves, the overall place is so picturesque, gardens and pool were wonderful. The staff were fantastic, they were friendly, helpful, couldn't do enough for us, even though we spoke so very little spanish they would always figure out what we needed, and did every thing they could to attend to our needs. I just wish their plumbing was more up to date, as I would have to wait a good 10 minutes for hot water to come through, and no air conditioning but we had a ceiling fan. The spa was excellent. Breakfast was great. Honestly people it truly is a wonderful place to stay at.

  • Worst experience ever

Family and friends we all came to Hacienda la Magdalena from M?xico city for my brother wedding this very weekend.
Since the very first moment we've checked in at the front desk, the lady miss treated all of us.
Her attitude was very rude motiveless, even though prices are not cheap and we were principal guests, we all full filled the hotel rooms, besides we've payed and rented the chapel and the garden.
As we were paying for the room, she was just asking if we were going to eat, we've must decide at that very moment and tell her, otherwise she wasn't going to let us order for a meal before the wedding.
Rooms are terrible, decoration it's mediocre, there's no light, it's very dark, customised with very old things, very bad taste.
There are not air conditioning in the rooms, and there is no protection for mosquitoes on windows, although there are not black out curtains. The worst place to get rest and sleep.
Next morning, after the wedding, that rude lady from the front desk started to call every one of us to our room, threatening us for checking out immediately and to get breakfast at that very minute, arguing that she had a very long list of people who was about to check in at her hotel, what of course, it was the biggest lie ever.
Since we've arrived, we asked politely if we could have some chance to make late check out on Sunday and she was extremely aggressive with her attitude and response.
Sunday brunch was very poor quality, there is no variety on the buffet, there were out of coffee before noon, at least that's what they told us.
I hope anyone visit this place, this opinion it's nothing personal, I'm just sharing our family experience of one and a half day of the worts weekend at Hacienda la Magdalena.
I hope the owners take some action with this front desk lady, and take this constructive comments.
    It's a pity.
This in not a Boutique Hotel.

  • My wife took me here for a surprise birthday present. I hate surprises, but loved this place.

Hacienda La Magdalena is a very small boutique hotel (we were the only guests). The hotel is an old hacienda just outside the urban area, convenient yet tranquil. Their big calling card is their spa. Excellent massages and I ought to know since I get two a week for therapy. The only surprise, beyond the birthday surprise, was how good the food was.

  • Home away from home

Our family just returned from a 7 day stay at Hacienda La Magdalena- it was our first trip together to Mexico and my wife and I brought our 2.5 year old son. There are plenty of places to get groceries and do laundry nearby. The hotel is about a 40 minute drive from Mercado Libertad and the Zoo. Trompo Magico is about 25 mins away and we had a great time there with our son.

The hacienda is large, beautiful, and charming- you can have a great time just relaxing in your room and walking around the property. There are lots of places to walk and explore, including a few small creeks and ponds. We saw ducks and rabbits every day on the property and it's refreshing to wake, step outside, and hear the chirping from all the birds at the hacienda. The wife and I took advantage of the spa and it was great. I accidently fell asleep 30 minutes past my appointment and they politely got me up :)

The staff and their attention to us was our favorite part of the experience. Everybody seemed very happy to be there and genuinely wanted us to have a great time. The chefs prepared excellent food for us, even asking ahead of time what we'd be interested in and personalizing our meals. We constantly needed milk for our young son and since the rooms don't have refrigerators, they helped accommodate us by getting us milk when needed, even at late hours. They helped us with directions, with understanding culture in Guadalajara, and we just had a great time talking on a friendly level with everyone. My wife is a native Spanish speaker but I am not very good... but everyone was patient and worked with me when I had difficulties. It was sad leaving this morning- I've stayed at a lot of hotels and the personal service we got made Ritz-Carlton look like a Motel 6.

To me, it was great value for the money. We will be returning for sure- hopefully once a year as a new family tradition.

  • Picturesque location

    by Annie R on 2015-07-21 01:11 pm

Hacienda la Magdalena was the perfect picturesque setting for our wedding. The hacienda is absolutely beautiful and relaxing. The hacienda grounds are well maintained and the hotel itself has an understated elegance. Our guests were impressed with the hacienda and found the rooms to be spacious and very comfortable. The service was also great; all employees were very attentive to our needs. A very special thank you to Federico, the hacienda night watch, who spent very late nights with us. He was very attentive and kind to all of us and took time to tell us about the hacienda's history. Breakfast every morning was delicious, not to mention their caf? de hoya! We even got to experience the Father's Day brunch and it was an experience in itself. The brunch buffet was delicious and they had live entertainment, including ballet folklorico and horseback riding.
Organizing a destination wedding can be very daunting but we're so glad we did it. Our guests enjoyed the atmosphere, location and food. Perla was easy to work with and always responded to our questions and concerns.
