  • Pampered Tranquility

    by Vatche M on 2019-12-28 07:42 am

The Summary: Hacienda San Jose is a great place if you're looking for a relaxed getaway in a small yet highly attentive and luxurious environment in a tropical setting

The Good: The room was designed with relaxation in mind (we stayed at a Mayan Villa with hanging/swinging bed, outside private areas for hammock and dipping pool, away from neighboring rooms), the hacienda renovation was true to the regional style with no added bells & whistles while keeping part of the old charm, it is located in a very secluded area (safe from what we could tell) just perfect distance away from many activities (45 minutes from M?rida and many Mayan ruins), and the staff were simply amazing attending to whatever we needed plus delivered freshly brewed coffee in the morning.

The Bad: None for our preferences, but if you're looking for access to beaches you will need 45 minutes to get there, only 15 room (a plus for us) which means you don't get all the big resort amenities

I would definitely come here again and still can't get that swinging bed out of mind.

  • Disappointing

    by maya0106 on 2019-12-26 04:33 pm

We stayed here for 4 nights just before Christmas. The place looks tired and it lacked any soul. There was nowhere to socialise , no one to organise activities etc and the dining room and food were disappointing. It needs someone to revamp it and give it life.

    Owner Response
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, We are constantly working on improving our services and comments like yours are very important and greatly appreciated.

We are sorry our services have not met your expectations, your feedback has been shared with the haciendas's team and we all agree on providing additional activities, we will be implementing these options throughout the upcoming year, concerning our dining proposal I am glad to inform that we are soon to launch a new international menu with a local traditional blend in search to provide further meal options.

Although we are more a slow pace getaway style hotel when compared to large resorts your comments will help us add and improve pivotal experiences for our guests.

We truly hope you will give us an opportunity in the future to experience these changes. Once again thank you for taking the time on providing us with this important feedback.

    Best regards.

    Gabriel Quijano.

  • Magical!

by AnnaPancake on 2019-12-21 04:56 am

What a magical place in the middle of the djungle, history is very present and you want to learn more about the people who lived here. Bescause they are here, a sudden movement in the corner of your eye, an unexpected scent, vague music in the distance...or maybe its just my imagination

  • Great service

by ggarciamex on 2019-12-12 11:26 am

We stayed in room 2 which had no terrace or outdoor jacuzzi like some other ones however it was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in! We enjoyed the local organic bath products and the hammock in the room was a plus.
There's mosquito repellent too so make sure you use it!
The hacienda is stunning - we loved swimming in the pool and relaxing on the hammocks.
Breakfast was nice although the food took a long time to arrive.
The service was exceptional - everyone at the hacienda was lovely.
We did some birdwatching with one of the gardeners of the hacienda. We also went running around the hacienda grounds which was great 4 laps around equals to 10.4 km
The 'library' is not really a library they could put some more effort into it really but that didn't bother us.
I had the Mayan 50min massage - I thought it was a bit overpriced but I enjoyed it.
We would love to come back.

  • Blissful

Solo female traveler spent five wonderful nights here.

    PROS

    - Booked five nights for only 140,000 Bonvoy points
    - I was initially disappointed that I wasn't upgraded (Titanium), but I ended up loving the casita. I was super-happy with this style of accommodation
    - Easy parking
    - Very peaceful. The property in the middle of the jungle, and the sounds are wonderful: the breeze through the trees, bird calls, insect chirps
    - The temperatures were in the 90's off the property, but the property grounds always felt about 80 degrees -- there's lots of shade
    - Beautiful grounds. Two-kilometer driveway made for a nice daily walk. Remains of old buildings are charming. Gigantic old trees. Large pool. Everything well maintained
    - Wildlife galore: frogs (one was in my bathroom, which was fine with me -- they eat bugs), iguanas, raccoon/weasel--like things with a striped tail, butterflies, all types of birds
    - Casitas are wonderful. Huge. Lots of windows with screens. Felt safe. Quiet. Dark at night. Always stayed about 70 degrees indoors. Very high, thatched-roof ceilings. Outdoor hot tub. Patio with hammock (I'm lying in it). Elevated beds that sway. Luxury Collection linens (and substantial pillows). Mini-fridge that I couldn't hear (a first), open shower. Fresh flowers
    - Excellent service: housekeeping, reception, restaurant (Andres took good care of me in the morning
    - WiFi in casitas, deck, restaurant. Cellphone service (Telcel) -- but not a lot of bars
    - Good food in the restaurant. Breakast included with points stay. Amenities left in room at night. Mini-bar
    - My laundry was returned in a few hours

    CONS

    - Can be tricky to locate
    - There was a giant spider in my bathroom one day. It didn't bother me much, though, as the space is huge, it's far from the bedroom, and the beds are elevated
    - Can hear the generators of neighboring casitas if they run the AC (one night of five)
