  • Respected hotel slipping

    Since the Hotel Phillips is part of Hilton's Curior Collection. I had no qualms about reserving a room for three nights. The venerable hotel is nicely located in downtown KC, within a block of the convention center and convenient to entertainment venues. The staff was very friendly, but I was surprised that no one could tell me the easiest way to out of downtown and to the airport, twenty minutes away. The young man who checked me in finally located a tear-off pack of maps.

    My room appeared freshly painted. perhaps redone recently, tho the furniture (desk, chest cum TV stand) was somewhat scarred. The room contained two queen beds, both quite comfortable, but was hardly designed for two. Architectural details made the arrangements of beds and nightstands/lamps inconvenient. I was dismayed to find that one-half the room had not been dusted or vacuumed. It took two tries to get that corrected. The thing that just flat out floored me was that the full length mirror had been installed in the bathroom, directly opposite the stool. (WHAT were they thinking?!) I also noticed that the hallways were not clean, the baseboards were grimy.

    Dinner in the dining room that night was passable. The next morning my companion and I were not pleased when the potato portion of our breakfast omelet plate turned out to be potato chips. My friend said, "What's this?" The waiter replied, curtly, "Sliced potatoes!" and walked away.

    I'll not be going back there again.

  • Nothing special

    The lobby area was charming, but the hotel itself was not totally clean. The rooms do not have fridges or minibars and my room was very dusty and the fixtures were all worn and in need of replacing. I do not rate this as a 4 star experience.

  • stepped back in time

    Very historical - felt like we had stepped back in to 1930's. Appreciated the complimentary transportation. Parking is a challenge and hotel has valet parking which is very helpful. Very pleased to see how much downtown KC has been renovated

  • Regency Room Rehearsal Dinner

    I would, without reservation, wholeheartedly recommend planning your event with Ms. Beegle and the Hotel Phillips event staff. Our experience was one that went beyond our expectations.
    My husband and I chose the Regency Room for our son's wedding rehearsal dinner. The room comes alive at night with the rich wood tones reflecting the soft lighting. Music was selected to fit the event and played at a level compatible with conversation and dining. Ms. Beegle gave close attention to the table placement and dressing, as well as the house-provided centerpiece placement.
    For the dinner we chose the Italian Buffet. Chef Bryant and his staff executed a beautiful and delicious array of food. We had guests with dietary needs who had no problem finding food that kept to their specific requirements. The buffet was artistically presented, and the line moved along without issue. Chef Bryant was generous enough to make an appearance (our request) as the evening was winding down so that we could personally thank him for his culinary excellence.
    Another wonderful aspect of the event was the discretion and demeanor of the servers. Jose greeted the guests at the bar with grace and kept up his welcoming spirit throughout the evening. Frances, Mirayah, and Vladimir were everything gracious servers should be. They were discreet to the point of almost being invisible, yet ready to attend to any question or need throughout the meal and afterwards. Cody managed the room well and helped me with ideas to graciously bring the evening to a close. That in itself should be an indication of how comfortable and satisfied our guests were - they didn't want to leave!
    Ms. Beegle, of course, was the mastermind behind the event. Details were carefully presented, and her suggestions saved us dollars and unnecessary anxiety. Katie made sure we had access to any documents, diagrams, and images to make our evening the success it was. We requested a table for a seasonal arrangement and canvas photo of the couple. I simply took her a box of supplies and she constructed a lovely display welcoming our guests into the room.
    Our entire experience from the initial meeting and tour to the close of the event itself was a complete joy and without issue

  • Fantastic Wedding Venue

    The Hotel Phillips was a fantastic venue for us to hold the wedding for our daughter. The hotel's wedding coordinator, Katie Beegle was an absolute pro in shepherding us through each step of planning and holding the event despite us giving her only 12 weeks advance notice (and we were out of town for 5 of those 12 weeks). We held the ceremony and reception with 60+ guests in several rooms in the hotel and the staff anticipated our every need and we moved effortlessly from space to space. Katie listened to our desires and helped us plan an event we are very proud of. She was also very respectful of our budget and the event came in slightly our target. The hotel is beautifully renovated with great amenities while honoring its nearly 100 year legacy. The hotel also took great care of our out-of-town guests which further added to the event. Thank you Katie and the entire hotel staff for helping us host a great wedding.
