  • What could be better !!

    by Anders O on 2020-05-15 08:20 am

This is the absolute place for relaxation. The nature is breathtaking and the hotel is just amazing. Every room with its own story and the decoration in each room is so nice. No telephone, no TV but who cares you can enjoy a perfect 3 course dinner and enjoy a nice coffee in front of the fireplace or in the saloon. The personal is very friendly and the service is perfect. You wake up in the morning after a night in one of the best beds I have tied, slept like a baby. A shower in a modern and wellfunctioned bathroom and then a really good breakfast. This is a must experience!!

  • Extraordinary!

Spectacular Norwegian nature. The intriguing history of the hotel is presented by the staff in the evening, after dinner. Absolutely lovely food, both breakfast and dinner whith local foods. Great staff; wheared 19th century clothing.

  • Wonderful evening meal, twin bed, some limitations

    by MJH161 on 2019-08-31 11:56 am

Recently we stayed here two nights.
Liked-The evening meals were among the very best we had on our two week trip in Norway. The chef here is fabulous. We had ox tenderloin one night, Hake fish another night. The soups were outstanding. The accompanying wine selections are limited, but still work. The setting on the edge of a fjord with surrounding mountains and an amazing valley are stunning. We were able to take a walk in the nearby valley and also take a private boat ride on the fjord. Both activities were memorable. The historic nature of the hotel built in 1891, transported by boat is very interesting. We greatly enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the evening.
Just OK-we had one of the nicer rooms, the king Oscar. However, it was unusually dark with a tiny twin bed. We had trouble seeing in the room due to the dim lighting. During the day things are only slightly better--visibility is poor. Everything seemed crowded and tight in the King's room. There is virtually no storage anywhere. The shower is fine, but there was a single sink and no place to put any bathroom supplies other than on the floor. Breakfast at 9 AM was absolutely chaotic with a Cattlecall wolfing down the limited options. The staff did their best to resupply, but everyone ate so fast and packed lunches for their hikes that the food was consumed within seconds after it appeared. Bumping into the hordes was awkward. Try to eat early in the morning, perhaps at 7-8 AM. We slept poorly due to the tiny bed and the raucous crowd beneath us that went on with singing, drinking until 3 AM on a Friday night.
Overall - this is a historic hotel catering to hikers and climbers. If you are a history buff, you will likely love this place. Also I think foodies would enjoy the evening meals. The surrounding area is historic and beautiful. If you are expecting luxury in this remote area, you may have some disappointments. I think sleeping will work best here if you are exhausted from hiking the surrounding mountains or if you are hard of hearing.

  • Unique experience and amazing guest services

    by davidaq23 on 2019-08-27 011:42 pm

Everything here was top notch. Particularly the service, we were well taken care of the entire time. I managed to leave behind my trusty rain jacket, but Maia and the team made sure it was on the next boat back to ?lesund so I could get it back. I highly recommend the experience staying at the ?ye Union. Best part? Amazing views without the craze of tourists.

  • Nice charming hotel

by karangoenka on 2019-08-18 07:08 pm

The hotel is nice , with a lovely old historic charm to it. The surroundings are absolutely wonderful, beautiful and very scenic. The rooms are comfortable. However more amenities need to be provided in the rooms such as kettle, tea n coffee powder , locker to store valuables.
