  • A unique experience

    by Amanda K on 2019-05-07 12:51 am

This place is out of this world! The surrounding nature is incredible and picturesque. The rooms are beautiful and uniquely decorated - each room named after one of the famous guests who have stayed at the hotel throughout time. Karen Blixen, Queen Silvia to name a few. The staff is extremely service minded and the food, oh my. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to visit again sometimes. This was a very special experience.

  • A special place filled with history and surrounded by beautiful nature

    by Elin T on 2018-12-10 04:16 am

NOTE: I was here only for a cup of coffee and was offered to walk around and look. I never stayed over for a night.

The building is renovated as best as possible filled with so many historical objects and good stories. Each room is unique and styled. The staff is so friendly and offers great background stories of the rooms, the history behind, the renovation and hiking suggestions. The area is filled with incredible mountains, perfect for climbers, but also hikers. The fjord nearby offers kayaking. The hotel also is a cafe and restaurant. Thank you for the great coffee and the sugar cubes by the fireplace! It was very much appreciated!

  • Gloomy, tiny rooms

by painthorsegirl on 2018-08-23 01:24 am

The setting for this hotel is beautiful and the staff are really nice and the food is excellent. Those are the reasons for the three stars instead of two. The rooms are unbelievably tiny, and very gloomy, and as others mention, the walls are paper thin so you hear everything. I guess if you go with appropriate expectations, that you are staying in a historical property in which the rooms reflect the style of a bygone, less comfortable era, you might like it. I don't see how two people could fit in one room. The bathrooms are updated with nice showers, but also seriously tiny.

I do recommend the local beer that they serve!

  • 2 1/2 weeks in Norway. Only hotel I would not recommend

    by bull59 on 2018-08-13 011:35 pm

Overpriced. Tiny king deluxe room. Manager nowhere to be found
Just nice young women running the place. This hotel is An overpriced tourist
Hotel with overpriced food. Seatings at 6 pm And 8:30. We tried walking in at
8:25 and were politely told no. This hotel is quirky and on the road (15 min)
To the Geiranger ferry which is probably why people stay there. Scenery is
Beautiful. Skip this hotel and just drive to the ferry. Dark, small rooms, and I
Think they know they have one time visitors. Part of the 62 nord group
The other hotels are highly recommended. Not this one

  • Great lunch spot!

    by ArnieR_13 on 2018-08-04 01:26 pm

We took a ferry from Alesund--an hour and fifteen minute lovely jaunt, then had lunch here. Three courses, no choices, but we thought the chicken was excellent (after having had fish for about 10 straight days). Odd place, historic. Combined with ferry, and an hour walk after lunch it made for a very pleasant day.
