  • The Pearl of the Orient

by edmndza on 2020-02-13 09:28 pm

I've been here several times, and I never tire of going here. And I've recommended this to many friends. Balikbayans who come to Manila ought to make plans to come here. It's not that far from Manila. A beautiful and unique collection, set in a perfect location, beside the sea, nestled between the Mariveles Mountain and Mount Natib. It's a proud display of Phillippine life, laid out in an exquisite way, with gardens, canals, and sculptures everywhere. Each bench, each tree, each sculpture is in the right place. You will not tire of just looking and walking around. I come here on off days, so I don't know how it looks during peak periods, but it is such a relaxing place. The tours are must-do's, including the workshop tour.

  • Filipiniana vibes

by pasyalangiya on 2020-02-11 04:14 pm

Nice for weekend getaway. The area is quite big and have to wait for shuttles to go from one place to the other. Checking in is not that convenient because from the reception building you have to take a shuttle carrying your luggages to the accommodation. Same process when checking-out

  • It was supposed to be a relaxing vacation.

    by RommelR124 on 2020-02-05 05:14 am

We were told that there would be a wedding reception near our rooms but we didn't realise that it would create so much noise that even the walls of our rooms would tremble. I was expecting for a relaxing vacation with my family but it turned out to be a horrible one. We had 2 elderlies and four young children and they couldn't sleep because of the noise coming from the large speakers. It was a terrible experience. The management should've moved us to other site even if it's cheaper than the rooms we booked in anticipation of the noise it would be creating.

  • Awesome place

    by cleah2016march on 2020-02-04 03:25 am

This is a great place to bring your family. Lots of interesting houses, places to see esp hotel de oriente. Lots of choices at breakfast. Be early since it got so full later on some people were waiting to be seated. This was on a weekend though.

  • Very enchanting and picturesque place

    by Elvin A on 2020-02-03 05:47 pm

Was able to get a good deal from a group buying site which my family used in our overnight stay here. The deal was 35% discounted from posted rates, and it included the room for 4, everything in the Day Tour Package, sans the P500 food voucher; so for a family of 4, this was already a steal!

We took off from Quezon City early Sunday morning, it took us almost four hours to get there (~180km), which included a 1-hour stop for breakfast. Thank God for SCTEX, this saved us an hour of driving time!

Already visited Las Casas back in 2014, and it was still very small back then and a lot of the amenities we saw in 2020 were not yet present back in 2014, so I was excited to see the additions, and wow, it did not fail to impress!

The entrance that is used now is different from the entrance back in 2014. There was a 1km drive on a dusty road once you turn off the main highway before you get to the resort's main gate. Parking spaces were adequate for both day tour guests and checked in guests. However, the parking lot was also dusty, and most likely muddy during the rainy season.

We were allowed entry into the resort and use of the facilities even before our check in time of 3:00pm. Nice!

First impressions of the facility were good. The reception was nice, the grounds were spic-and-span, the staff were very pleasant, there was an ATM machine right at the entrance, shuttles (jeeps) come and go every few minutes, among other things.

We were able to join the 11:30 am Walking Heritage Tour. We wanted to have lunch after that but the line at both Casa Unisan and Casa Binan would be a minimum one hour wait, which we found absurd! So we decided to return to the Casa New Manila, but the situation was the same. We were told by the staff that they would close by 2:00pm (it was already past 1:00), and the wait for the food was at least 1.5 hours! But they were willing to take our order if we were to take it out. Also, food would cost at least P400 per person! Since we were not willing to wait that long for something that expensive, we decided to go out of the resort and eat elsewhere. We got back right in time for check-in.

We stayed inside the resort for the next 24 hours, enjoying the numerous activities they had to offer: Carabao Parade, Palo Sebo, Carabao Race, swimming at the beach and pool, dinner at Casa Unisan, nightcap with the wifey at the beach bar, breakfast and tour of Hotel De Oriente, among many other things.

Our room was at the charming Casa Escolta, a room with a loft, with two queen beds, perfect size for our family. It was retro outside, but the amenities inside were pretty modern. The bathroom was well-appointed and even had a tub!

When you wake up in the morning and peer out the window, you would see the staff dressed in 1800s Filipino clothing, and every now and then you'd see a calesa drive by. Gives you a feeling you've traveled back in time!

    So in a nutshell:

    PLUS:
    - The resort was easy to find, entrance is along a major highway.
    - The lobby was nice, the grounds were spic-and-span, the pool was invitingly blue, and the beach was clean. The kids enjoyed the water, albeit it was a bit cold.
    - The price of the accommodations was reasonable, considering what was included in what you pay for.
    - Room amenities are modern, even if the houses were from the 1800s.
    - Selfie and picture-taking heaven!
    - The issuance of vehicle entry and exit passes, check in and check out, were quick and very efficient.
    - The service and courtesy from members of all the staff is hands down very good.

    DELTA:
    - Why would your main restaurant (Caf? Marivent) close at 2:00pm even if there are hordes of guests for the day? Many of which were already waiting in line.
    - Waiting time for the food was unreasonable, 1.5 hours at least for take-out? Wow! No wonder some of the seated diners were already noticeably irate waiting for their orders.
    - Please revisit your pricing for food! Spending at least P400 per person, to me, is unreasonable. However, many people will probably not mind paying a higher price IF AND ONLY IF the food gets to them quicker in a more reasonable amount of time.
    - The roadway from the highway to the main entrance, and the parking lot, has to be improved. Compacted gravel or macadam surface will be much better than loose soil.
    - The signal of the cable TV service in the room was cutting in and out the whole time we were watching TV. Not really sure if it was the TV, the cable service, or both.
