  • Planetarium Show was amazing!

    by roryr664 on 2020-01-21 02:33 pm

Really enjoyed our visit to the planetarium show, a total surprise but well worth the visit. The show is ~30 min long and is a mix of Mayan creation mythology and astronomy (both general astronomy facts such as seasons and eclipses, as well as how the architecture at Chichen Itza is built around astronomical phenomena such as equinoxes and solstices). The visuals and animation are enjoyable, and the narrator is very easy to understand (voiced out loud in Spanish, with headphones available with English narration). The planetarium has set times each day so check the schedule to make sure you don't miss the showing.

  • Amazing location

    by PeteandJackie7018 on 2020-01-18 10:59 am

This would have to be the best place to stay if you want to visit Chichen Itza. It has it's own entrance which comes out right in front of the main pyramid. There's also a planetarium which has a number of shows a day and is worth doing before you go in to CI as it explains everything out why CI was built and how it all works. Cost is US$9 per person.
The restaurant is excellent and the service was brilliant. Some of the nicest Yukatan food we have had in the past few days.
    The rooms are huge too.
A definite must do is the Sunrise tour of Chichen Itza. It was so amazing and probably one of the best things I have done on my travels. Our guide Josue (Josh) was so fantastic and his knowledge is amazing. He's a young guy but you can see that he lives and dreams Chichen Itza. He took some amazing photos of us that really made our trip and memories, Make sure you ask for him as your guide, especially if you are wanting to get some great Instagram shots.
Highly recommend this hotel . It's worth paying more to have CI at your fingertips.

  • Very Nice Resort

by TravelChappy on 2020-01-16 04:03 am

We had the opportunity to spend the day here as part of a day trip. The resort is older but still beautiful and the people are very friendly. The food was fantastic and having a back way in to the archeological site beats using the main entrance coming from someone who's done both. Can't recommend this place enough.

  • You stay here to be close to Chichen Itza

by becklambert on 2020-01-14 08:42 am

The point to the hotel is the location and the entrance at the back of the property into the site. And for this it's great. Meant we were in the site by 8.25 a.m. (ticket seller at the back of the hotel doesn't open until 8 and actually turned up 10 mins late by which point there was already a long queue and the card machine wasn't working). Hotel organised a guide who was excellent - brilliant English, engaging and very informative. You pay the guide directly. You'll find that lots of people are waiting for their guides at 8am. Getting in at 8.30 meant it wasn't too hot and we had the place largely to ourselves - we saw maybe 20-30 people spread out. Leaving at 11.30 and the coaches had arrived. Makes you really appreciate an early start. (decided against the 4.30 a.m. special where they limit it to 150 people from the hotel - that was right decision for us).
Hotel itself was mixed. Grounds are beautiful - plenty of trees and wildlife. Restaurant and the vegetarian offerings were surprisingly good. You don't need to worry as a veggie here. Staff at the restaurant were very good.
Swimming pool was good place to relax after the site.
Downside was the 'superior' room. You do get a big balcony. However the door has a large stained glass window and the windows themselves are clear glass. There are no curtains or blinds. This is apparently the 'feature' of the superior room. The lights from the corridor and across the complex are really bright - had to resort to hanging pool towels over to try and block it out. Reception staff were unhelpful with this questioning, rudely, why you needed not to have bright lights shining into your bedroom all evening. Looks like the regular rooms had completely wooden door and windows that had shutters. Bathroom was very tired and not at all nice. This really needs an update. Strange banging noise came from it throughout the night. Aircon was though excellent.
I'd recommend this hotel for the proximity to Chichen Itza, the restaurant and their great (restaurant) staff and the wider grounds. I'd also suggest a 2 night stay - think most people stay 1 night. Means you don't have to rush off after your time in the site. Not worth getting a superior room though.
