  • Good, sufficient for the location

    by gig-girl2 on 2019-09-20 05:15 am

Stayed here for a conference. The hotel, which is at least, in part, in an old historic building, is undergoing what seem to be renovations piece by piece, which did not interfere with the experience. That said ...
The rooms were large, attractive and unexceptional. The bed and bedding was comfortable. The availability of hot water and water pressure (on fifth floor) were good. My room had two sets of French doors that opened to the outside, with a view of a parking garage.
Like almost all hotels, the Omni does the least to look the best, which means that rooms need a deep cleaning every couple of months. Here, the baseboards, scroll-work in the bathroom mirror frames, etc., had the accumulation of many months if not years of dust, along with the edges of carpeting. A good cleaning would almost make such a room feel newly refurbished. But then, I notice these things, and others might not.
As an ardent "green", however, I take exception with the hotel's stated policy about towels (again, not unusual for any hotel). They talk the talk about not replacing towels daily, but they don't walk the walk. Every day, my towel -- neatly hung on a rack to dry -- was replaced with a fresh one. Further, there were no apparent recycle bins anywhere in the hotel. And, by the way, Omni provides toiletries in the small plastic bottles, which can inexplicably multiply throughout a stay even if one does not use them. So, for "green" I give Omni 0 stars.
As part of a conference, the food was good. It was nicely presented, hot and tasty. The servers were pleasant and helpful. Breakfasts were my favorite, with a variety of offerings for any taste. The conference rooms, as in almost all hotels, were freezing, and, I was told, this could not be adjusted. The hotel's IT people were there when needed and proactive.
The overall decor of the hotel is Texas-Mexican, in a background sort of way. There is nothing that you stop to admire, or that really grabs your attention. It simply contributes to an aura of the whole Riverwalk experience and the area in general. The lobby is sufficiently spacious, but does not offer furnishings or an ambiance that invite you to take a load off, relax, converse, etc. It has a bar, good of its kind, but somewhat tucked to the side and not immediately noticeable. Other common spaces were a courtyard with a small gas fireplace and fountain, and the pool area. Both are prettily decorated with Mexican ambiance, but are not especially inviting with plush furnishings, nooks and crannies, etc.
Overall, the staff were very helpful and professional. The Omni is perfectly acceptable, but it lacks that quality that elevates it to memorable.

  • Not what I expected

    by Susy B on 2019-09-16 09:35 am

I went for a wedding expecting a 4 star hotel, but I was very dissapointed with the quality of the room. It looks old and not mantained properly, low water pressure, bathroom light had a hard time turning on, bathroom fan- very nosy, and closet door was hard to open.
The only good thing was the customer service and people working at the hotel

    Owner Response
    Dear Susy:

Please accept our sincere apologies that your recent visit was less than exceptional. We are focused on delivering memorable experiences, and we will certainly use your feedback to improve our property and service levels.

  • Horrible stay for what was our wedding anniversary

    by Quest566984 on 2019-09-16 04:10 am

Well let's just say I would never stay here again or recommend this to anyone I know. We were staying here for our wedding anniversary and had the worst stay possible with having to move rooms to waiting till almost 5 for a room to be ready to hearing construction for 2 days that we were there to enjoy romantic weekend so that is the short version overstay and not to mention that we were overcharged from the beginning so I would never recommend this hotel to anyone considering it's an omni which is a 4-star hotel expected way more then what we received

    Owner Response

The most friendly staff! Valet, front desk, mechanical person, restaurant staff, door person, EVERYONE so friendly and helpful! I was traveling with an elderly person and the staff was so attentive and helpful and I just felt like they were there for ME!

  • Not up to Omni Standards

by stephanielburroughs on 2019-09-13 04:55 am

If you're used to staying in an Omni, I would stay somewhere else. This hotel looks like a Best Western, it is dark and old with broken TV's, and a cleaning staff that needs to be retrained. The location is the only perk. Hopefully it will be better post renovation. As we were leaving they were putting up metal fences which leads me to believe we were in unsafe conditions. I did not see any bugs in the room but I did not feel clean at all.

Please accept our sincere apologies that your recent visit was less than exceptional. I am happy to let you know that we are currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation to the hotel. While the renovation will include upgrades like new furniture, new air conditioning units and a complete re-do of the bathrooms; the hotel will retain the Spanish Colonial features like shared balconies and open air corridors. We hope you'll visit us in the future so we can deliver a more pleasant experience.
