  • Celebrate birthday at the Omni William Penn.

    by FelixR450 on 2020-01-26 06:37 am

We make the Omni a destination each year to celebrate my wife's birthday. Always enjoyable and the attention we receive makes the trip memorable. Have been doing this for about 10 years and seems that each year gets better and better. Wonderful staff and service. Parking across the street and many excellent restaurants near by. we look forward to next year.

  • "Historic" hotel = outdated and out of touch

    by abrs2020 on 2020-01-24 07:47 am

I've stayed in this hotel multiple times for conferences over the past three years, and every time I do, I am stunned by the shape that it's in. The Omni is labeled as "historic," but that simply means that the rooms and amenities are extremely outdated. On this particular stay, I had to change rooms because my suite's door wouldn't close/lock and because the HVAC made loud, random thumping noises throughout the night. I'm not a huge room-switcher, so I wouldn't have made the change without those issues, even though the wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling, and the tub looked like it needed replacement about 15 years ago.

On top of the room situation, I was shocked to learn that the Omni doesn't have recycling anywhere on its premises. An employee shared that they had set up fake recycling to accommodate an environmentally-conscious politician recently, but did not make the effort to implement a true recycling system. For a hotel that hosts not only guests, but conferences/meetings, it would make a huge impact to start a recycling program, and it seems ridiculous that management would choose to fake it rather than do so.

I do want to note that the staff with whom I spoke were lovely, helpful, and forthright. I so appreciated their help with both the room switch and my constant questions about recycling.

I hope that the Omni can get with the times, because it's in a wonderful location, has a great team, and could have a lot of potential as a favorite hotel in Pittsburgh.

  • Given Key to Occupied Room

    by 57meredithm on 2020-01-20 04:50 pm

I checked in on 1/18 - attempted to use my key to enter the room and it wouldn't open after a few tries. I returned to the front desk and they reprogrammed the key and said to try again. Returned to the room and the key still wouldn't work. Upon the second try using the key, I could hear the tv turned up loudly behind the door. Went back to the front desk and indicated that the key still didn't work and the room appeared to be occupied. Security came and escorted me back upstairs and used their master key to enter the room - he came back out and confirmed there were personal items in the room and the tv was in fact on. Back to the front desk for the third time where they were surprised to hear the room was occupied, they had no idea how that was possible. 45 minutes later I was given a key to another room that was unoccupied. I was escorted to that room by security - whereupon he checked the bathroom and closets to make sure no one was in the room?? 30 minutes later I received an unprofessional call from the front desk stating "housekeeping did a turn down service for that room and left the tv on really loud" and while laughing she said "you ended up with a nicer room anyways".

My main concern with this incident is security. I stay in hotels 65% of the year for business and I have never experienced anything like this.

  • Great Happy Hour

    by Johnnie-and-Lovie on 2020-01-20 01:46 pm

Monday through Friday the Palm Court restaurant has Happy Hour from 5 to 7 PM, with $1 oysters on the half shell and $3 brut champagne. You don't need to know any more than that.

But I must fulfill the minimum word requirements so I will add: the room is magnificent.
