  • Lovely hotel, great staff, fantastic room!

by simmonsadventures on 2020-03-09 07:54 am

We stayed here for 2 nights for our anniversary Friday to Sunday. The hotel was relatively quiet and we were very happy to receive a substantial upgrade for our room. We stayed in suite 329 which had its own lounge, free mini bar with soft drinks, tea and coffee facilities, large tv (limited English channels) good size bedroom with another tv, the bed was comfortable, however, the pillows were awful. They had a tablet next to the bed where you can order extra items such as blankets, pillows (there is a pillow menu!). There were 3 large wardrobes with mirrors in different areas of the suite, dressing gowns and the comfiest slippers we have had, a bath and separate shower which was amazing and both had touch menus instead of taps which was great.
There are key cards to access the lift to get to your floor and your room.
We used the pool area, however, only once, quickly as the pool was small and quite cold. There was a sauna (60 degrees) and a separate Finnish sauna (90 degrees) and a wet room.
There was a gym but we didn't use this, however, the equipment looked good.
We paid extra for the buffet breakfast and it wasn't as vast as we have experienced in other 5* hotels but it was fine. They had juicers so you can do your own juices which was good. The service we received throughout our stay was exceptional. They were very happy to help and very friendly. We were able to get taxis just outside and the door staff arranged this for us as and when needed. Umbrellas were available as it was raining on and off during our stay. The location was good with links close by and a tube stop at the bottom of the road. The Cafe Landtmann was about 10 minutes walk. There was a supermarket also about 10 minutes away.

  • Trusted Kempinski style and quality

    by 166mikej on 2020-02-04 010:08 pm

Historic building, sensitively and tastefully converted into a top of the line luxury hotel. The public areas are spacious, filled with natural light and welcoming. The bedrooms are large, nicely furnished, comfortable and well equipped, Service was exemplary throughout, right from our arrival at 8.00am, when the front desk went out of their way to find us a room and check us in immediately. There was a small incident one night, when room service mistakenly brought us a meal in the middle of the night (nothing sinister, just a simple error), but the hotel team went out of their way to deal with it. Breakfasts are good and the food and drinks service in the lounge is excellent. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

  • Can't Go Wrong with a Kempinski Hotel

    by Susan S on 2020-01-23 07:21 am

This is the second time I have stayed at a Kempinski Hotel and I'm a big fan! The rooms are lovely and the staff is friendly and hospitable. We found ourselves having to order room service twice during our stay and I have to say it was the best hands down! Where many times in room dining can be the weak link in a hotel, this was clearly not the case at the Palais Hansen! I can still taste the club sandwich! The building itself is large but it was very quiet inside the room.

The only thing that bothered me was that twice I called down to the concierge and apparently they were busy so the phone rolled over to one of the front desk staff. The first time I asked about hiring a private car to take us to Salzberg and I was told I was calling too late to make that happen for the next day but that she would leave a message for the conciege to call me in the morning and the second time I called I was hoping that the concierge could make reservations for afternoon tea the following day in the hotel. I was told that there weren't any reservations available but that I could just show up and hopefully they could fit me in. We did go the next day for tea and we were easily accommodated. In retrospect it just felt like it was easier for the front desk staff to tell me "no" to my requests then to actually make them happen. Not sure, but that's how I felt. We did see the concierge in person several times and he couldn't have been more helpful!

All in all we enjoyed our stay and if we found ourselves in Vienna again I wouldn't hesitate to stay at he Palais Hansen!

  • Difficult to fault anything at this hotel

    by Lotje_and_Pieter on 2020-01-05 06:45 am

Proper grand good-feeling hotel at the edge of the historical Vienna. We stayed with three (two adults and one teenager) in a junior suite. The room was very spacious and luxuriously finished. We used the spa which was small but nice. The lobby bar and cocktail bar were very welcoming and perfect to have an apero after a day of sightseeing. Staff is very friendly, and the concierges helped us finding the best restaurants (and hairdresser...) in town.

  • Lovely Christmas week in Vienna

    by N0rthY0rks on 2019-12-23 12:16 am

In a nutshell - this excellent hotel is located on the inner ring road, around a mile north of the old town centre. The rooms are superb, the staff are excellent and the food is the last word in quality... we've been fortunate enough to have stayed in some beautiful, modern 5 star hotels and the Palais Hansen Kempinski is the best of the lot. It does everything better than most - but, importantly, it has no weak points.

We had a private transfer from the airport which brought us to the impressive entrance of the hotel through the heavy Vienna traffic. I think there is a car park directly under the hotel. The staff are attentive, polite and proactive. The hotel lobby sets the scene - a spacious, light area with comfy seating, high quality food and drink are available, and a piano which was played beautifully from about 5pm onwards.

Glass lifts take you from inside to outside on the way to your floor - something you enjoy every time you ride them. We were staying in a Hansen suite - for a city hotel, it's large with high ceilings, and a lovely place to spend time. Dual zone climate control worked perfectly, and the glass touch controls had everything you needed immediately to hand - the only hotel we've stopped in with a suite as good as this was the Park Hyatt on 57th in Manhattan.

The food at the hotel is top notch. Something my wife is extremely keen on is organic eating, and she was indulged at every opportunity - beautiful fresh-cooked breakfasts, and impeccable service. Our thanks to Restaurant Manager/Sommelier Roman Bolschetz and his staff (especially Simon) - we were made most welcome, and the food was perfect. Roman clearly wanted every guest to feel special and enjoy the very best his restaurant could deliver - we looked forward to eating there each day.

The location of the hotel is around 10-15 mins gentle walk from the beauty of the old town. We went for the Christmas markets and found 5 or 6 completely separate events happening a comfortable walk from the hotel. Vienna is a river city and is pretty flat - enjoy the architecture and have a wander around. There were two full-size umbrellas in our closets; nice provision, but we didn't see a drop of rain the week we were there before Christmas.

The spa is large - several treatment rooms, very comfortable. Well-trained, attentive staff deliver high quality massages. There is a female-only sauna, a mixed spa (sauna, steam room, etc.), hydrotherapy pool and relaxation room.

I understand the hotel was completely renovated in 2013 - everything feels new and clean. It was a remarkable experience - a large hotel, which provided personalised service in a vibrant and forward-thinking city.

We're already planning a return visit - highly recommended.
