Overview

The Hengshan Moller Villa is located within the former French Concession in the commercial district of Shanghai. During the period of time when the city was under the joint administration of China and several European powers, the Moller Villa served as the private home to British shipping magnate Eric Moller. The Moller family continued living in the mansion after the Second World War but left the site after the successful revolution in by the communists. For more than half a century after the revolution, the Moller Villa served as the headquarters for the Communist Youth League Shanghai Branch. In the 1980’s, the mansion was listed a one of Shanghai’s protected historical buildings. In 2001, the Hengshan Group purchased the property and restored the mansion to its former glory while also adding a few additions to the site in order to convert it into a luxury hotel.

Today, the Hengshan Moller Villa offers 53 European-style guestrooms that retain the unique architectural beauty that the hotel is famous for. Each room is furnished with antique furniture along with modern amenities such as multi-functional televisions, high-speed internet access, and domestic as well as international direct dial phones. Guests of the hotel are treated to complimentary toiletries, daily newspapers, bottle water and an assortment of fruits and cookies as a way of saying “welcome.” The Moller Villa’s most sought after room, the Superior Executive Room, is the perfect place to experience Shanghai in the lap of luxury, offering guests a balcony with a wonderful view of the gardens and the city center.

Fun FactEric Moller was an avid fan of horseracing and was a prominent member of the Shanghai Horse Racing Club. His beloved horse Blonic Hill, an Arab stud stallion, was put to rest in a tomb that was built in the gardens. Today, a bronze statue stands in the garden in honor of his horse.
