  • A spectacular view with a room ...

by JourneyYYZ on 2019-07-21 11:42 am

The view rates 5+ stars on a sunny day ; the room 3 stars - hence the 4 star rating. Dated rooms and property - there are a number of things they could do to move the quality of the property up (better towels, beds, toiletries, spa/massage) however the view and the great service from the employees, as well as the open air folk museum, private collection of historical artifacts make this a great place to stay in the Naer?yfjord area. The food is fine, perhaps even good (depending on what you order). Based on my albeit limited experience of spending a week in the fjords, you are not there for the food, you are visiting for the extraordinary scenery, the outdoor experience and culture, the wonderful people and service, all of which are 5 star.

  • The TOP of a memorable day!

    by Cindy H on 2019-07-21 10:31 am

After taking 2 buses, two trains and an electric ferry our final destination today was at this hotel! This hotel is at the top of the mountain where we had just traversed. The hotel together with the Naeroyfjord are on UNESCO's prestigious World Heritage List. You go to the hotel for the view but the food was pretty good even though it was limited. There is nowhere else to eat so you must eat here. There is a wonderful gift shop and bar area and plenty of places to walk around and admire and take in the view of the valley below. The hotel is old and the rooms feel that way but are charming and easily overlooked. Our room happened to be overlooking the patio area roof but that still didn't stop us from seeing a rainbow as we unpacked. We were only here one night and it was challenging trying to find enough plugs in the room to charge things and get ready for the next part of our trip. But everything about this place is amazing. We were here is June, and I'm sure it would be very hot and extremely cold at other times of the year.

  • Come for the view

Overall you stay here for the view which is spectacular. Perched high on a mountain you have a view that will take your breath away. Couple this with the history and this is a great place for a short stay. The rooms are fairly basic. No TV but you really don't need that when you can look out your window with the amazing view. Food was good but not overly spectacular. This is a tourist/bus tour stop so expect things to be busy.

  • What a location!

    by Raker1 on 2019-07-12 10:52 am

I doubt you could find a hotel with a more amazing view! Apparently all guest rooms look out over the breathtaking Naeroy Valley. Rooms were quite large (even by American standards), very clean, nicely appointed, and with comfortable beds and a couple chairs. Surprise, no TV, but you don't need one with the beautiful view! Bathroom was slightly small, and you might need to be a high-jumper to get into the tub! Hotel includes a gift shop and a large inviting lounge with comfortable furnishings. Staff is very friendly & helpful (even let me borrow a power converter). Dining room is spacious and buffet is never-ending! Food is very good (not the best we had in Norway, but the desserts more than made up for the main entrees). Hotel is decorated with numerous antiques and artifacts. Be sure to get a tour of the hotel's museum nearby -- ancient homes and structures relocated to be preserved and appreciated by visitors. If you're lucky, you can get a guide to show you around.

  • What a view! Quite some history!

by Traveltroupe on 2019-07-11 05:09 pm

We visited this rather historical hotel as part of a cruise tour and it was quite an amazing hotel packed with history and overlooking the most stunning valley. The original hotel had been burned down on a couple of occasions so the existing building is what remains. It is not a grand hotel, I have seen many that are really beautiful but this hotel is stunning due to it's location overlooking a beautiful steep valley, it's gardens are quite beautiful in parts and the interior decor and artifacts on display are lovely.

The hotel put on tea and coffee for the group and the most delicious croissants with jam, very nice.

Walking round the garden you find amazing sites like the Lorelei bunker established by the Germany army to defend the area during WW2 and other amazing photographic delights.
