  • One of the nicest hotels anywhere.

    I cannot recommend any hotel over the Jefferson. Lobby area is worth the visit alone. Rooms are recently renovated to a five star level. All the case goods and bedding were first rate, huge bathrooms with full size granite tub (but who ever really uses them, just look great), and large granite shower. TV in the bathroom mirror.

    Staff so well trained, very considerate. Place is beautiful, a real jem.

    My wife and I loved the Jefferson Hotel with its courteous and capable concierge staff; modern amenities and comforts in the historic 1895 property; superb Sunday champagne buffet; and central location with complimentary shuttle service to Richmond's main downtown attractions.

    A well-prepared buffet with great presentation, interesting and delectable flavors. The sophisticated and elegant atmosphere was as perfect as the impeccable service. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. It was without a doubt one of the most amazing combination of luscious dishes I've ever had the privilege of experiencing. I'd certainly do it again.

    I've wanted to stay here for years, and finally had the excuse to be in Richmond. This is refinement at its best. Service is outstanding, rooms are beautiful. Very impressive. Will definitely make a point to stay here again when we are in town.

  • Disappointing and Overrated.

    The hotel is beautiful, elegant and historic. The rooms are well-appointed with unique layouts and beautifully remodeled bathrooms. However, the service leaves quite a bit to be desired. Upon arrival, our room was not ready, so we had to wait nearly an hour to see our room. Unfortunately, the air conditioning was not operational so we had to move to another room. We paid for an upgraded room but I doubt that the first room they put us in was the upgraded room. The second room was lovely, unfortunately they did not clean the room in the morning. We turned on the service button, but our room was not serviced until the second day. Also, we ordered a cheese tray upon arrival but after we finished eating, the tray sat in the hall for nearly 12 hours waiting to be taken away. We ate dinner at LeMaire one evening and my husband sent back his meal and ordered from the bar menu instead. My meal was okay but certainly not what I hoped for. Unfortunately, the highlight of our stay was eating away from the hotel at a restaurant recommended by the concierge. I must admit the concierge was great, despite our disappointments with the housekeeping services and dining. In summary, l would say that a five star hotel in Richmond is not really a five star hotel. If you are considering the Jefferson in Richmond, reconsider. If you think that my review is harsh, you should know that we completed the hotel survey after we returned and included numerous details about the disappointments of our stay and we did not hear anything from the hotel in response. Again, reconsider.
