  • Hotel - great. Road to it - HORRIBLE

    by Carolyn A on 2019-10-21 06:34 pm

Whatever you do, do NOT let your GPS send you on Highway 606 (should be named 666 - the Devil is in that road!). There are other options. Hwy 606 is ONE LANE, steep, many blind curves, a nightmare.
The resort, on the other hand, was a dream. Do the historical tour and the skeet shooting. Have the breakfast in the main dining room. Enjoy the spa.

  • Lovely, historical resort with a lot to offer.

What a gem in the mountains of Virginia. This is a historical property, the grande dam of it's day, still an extremely lovely property that is undergoing renovations in different areas. One really should keep that in mind and enjoy the grandeur of the hotel and it's surroundings and overlook the small things like older carpet or draperies. I booked a group of 14 for a work/pleasure retreat and we all had a terrific time with various activities. We golfed, hiked, napped in hammocks, enjoyed the spa and had a group skeet shooting lesson. We would have loved to stay longer. We found all the front desk service and valets to be excellent, willing to please in any way possible. There is a $39 resort fee, but considering you can use free shuttles to the activities, a complimentary house tour every morning, an afternoon tea and dessert, ongoing music in the grand hall, wonderful hikes on the property, we consider that fee part of the cost of staying in such a nice resort. Prices for meals and gifts are higher, but that is to be expected for such a property. Our groups only small complaint was that dinner one night in Woodys had inconsistent service. One server excellent, the other seemed disinterested. The following evening in Jeffersons was much better. It would be nice to see another breakfast option, there is the more expensive and formal breakfast or coffee and premade breakfast sandwiches in Martha's, which actually were ok, but another option in between would be helpful. A note regarding the plumbing, I saw someone mention there was no pressure. I thought the same until I learned to pull the faucet outward to increase pressure! I would certainly return to The Omni Homestead Resort, as a couple or in a group. I just got the hang of skeet shooting, I want to try it again!

  • Filthy!

    by 2019JGB on 2019-10-21 06:30 am

Food on bathroom floor and papers from previous occupant on bedside table. Insect on the wall. Blanket molded inside. AC broken. Furniture veneer broken and peeling. Floor uneven causing trips. No place to plug phone charger near bed. Doorlock locked us out for hours. Bugs painted into the bathroom ceiling. Upon complaint, only offered to clean the room. Hall carpet filthy. Dusty cobwebs in chandeliers of restaurant.

  • Lovely hotel with some drawbacks

    by debg926 on 2019-10-19 05:06 am

This was our second visit to the Homestead. We love the relaxed yet elegant ambience of the resort.

We only spent one night en route to KY. Our room was very comfortable, nicely decorated and quiet. Our view was awful, looking out onto a roof where workers were making repairs. Definitely worth upgrading for a better view.

We enjoyed the 12+ mikes of walking trails around the resort and the complimentary afternoon tea with cake. The lovely indoor pool was being refurbished during our stay. There are more than enough activities on-site to keep most people entertained for 2 full days (more if you golf), I believe.

The hotel's restaurants can accommodate dietary restrictions which makes dining easy. We had a good dinner at Woody's Pub. The only drawback to this restaurant is that it is popular with families. During our dinner, several families came in together, sat down next to us. The 8-10 young children were allowed to run around and scream. I don't fault the wait-staff, but rather the parents.

The drawbacks during our stay were three-fold:

    1. The hotel allows smoking on the large front porch, which is unusual in this day and age. During our stay, the weather was lovely so the big front doors into the lovely lobby were kept open. So anytime you were in the large lobby or on the porch, you had to endure the strong smell. It rendered relaxing on the rocking chairs on the front porch unappealing. While waiting for our vehicle upon departure, my sweater absorbed the smoke odor.

    2. We had almost no water pressure in our shower. We took showers with just a trickle of water. It would spurt out at 50% strength for a couple of seconds then return to 10% flow. We informed the front desk and were told "yes, we have a community-wide water problem".

    3. We used valet parking and my SUV's door was dinged. We didn't notice it until we pulled out and stopped for gas. I expected more care. Note: departing on a weekend at checkout time is a bit of a zoo. It takes about 20 min to get your car and it is a rushed feeling.

While I have outlined several negatives, I think we would consider staying here again if we are assured that the hotel has adequate water pressure.

  • Mini-vacation

    by Janet R on 2019-10-19 02:57 am

My husband and I took a mid-week trip to the Homestead and had a nice experience. Our accommodations were great and service was good the entire stay. Had lunch and dinner at the Jefferson and were quite pleased with our meals and service. As always, afternoon tea in the Great Hall was enjoyable.
