  • Repeat visitors of a historic and wonderful hotel

    by Paula F on 2019-12-06 07:19 am

My Mom and I visit/stay @ The Royal Hawaiian annually for the last several years. This hotel has become very special to us, not only for the wonderful accommodations and atmosphere, but also from the staff/employees who make our experience staying here even more wonderful. We always stay in the Mailani Premier room and the beds are super comfortable, the room is clean & bright, the lanai is comfortable with amazing views of the ocean and let me tell you that toilet in the bathroom is something to come back to this hotel for :) We were celebrating my Mom's 89th birthday and G*d willing we will be back next year to celebrate her 90th birthday as well. They had a piece of cake and a bottle of pink Royal Hawaiian sparkling wine in our room for my Mom which was a very nice and special touch and much appreciated. The bakery has such delicious pastries too. I wanted to recognize some of the staff who made our stay even more special: Lenn Yonemura, Mia Atsumi, Gerard Thomas, Meilani Akuna, Andrew Paul and the wonderful staff in valet and in the Mailani lounge for breakfast and evening as well. Thank you for making us feel like ohana and this hotel is like our 2nd home. See you again in Nov/Dec 2020.

  • A relaxing week

    by squinn13 on 2019-12-05 11:12 am

I spent 10 great days at The Royal Hawaiian. It's central to everything in Waikiki, We stayed in the Mailani Tower. It's clearly a luxury hotel, but there were good and bad. The good far outweighed the bad.

    Pros:
LOCATION: So many restaurant, shopping, tours close by. The beach is RIGHT there.
Restaurants: Ate in all 4 (Azure/Sotnegrill same place) very nice
    Comfy bed
    Nice balcony
Great pool service (Mahalo Kacie, I miss you, you were the best!)
Exquisite welcome and set up email (Mahalo Mia)
    Great Concierge service
Yoga was awesome (varied poses for levels, multi lingual)
The grounds and the buildings are beautiful.

    Cons:
The lounge had limited menus. Having done other lounges the selection was more varied. For the size of the tower the seating is limited. And C'mon, it's Hawaii, have fresh pineapple.
Pool hours: The pool is closed at 6. It's just lame. And the shared pool with the Sheraton is a walk and only stay open till 8.
Spa: The spa is not directly connected so you cannot use any of the spa facilities unless you have a service. I'm accustomed to Bonvoy elite members being able to access a steam and sauna, even if in the spa.
At the check in desk at the tower we had a women who had a tough time setting things up, same person checked us out. Both took over 20 minutes which is poor service.

    Overall:
I adored staying in the tower. It's steps to the pool/hot tub, the restaurants and the beach. We rented a cabana through the beach boys for a day and it was awesome. The lounge was limited but good, very nice staff. You can walks out to the beach and go left of right for more dining options, Duke's is mere steps away, Grab a pool chair early and enjoy a lazy day soaking up the tropical goodness.

  • Still an absolute favourite

    by Susanne M on 2019-12-03 00:26 am

It's still an absolute favourite and it was an absolute treat to spend a few days here again. The 1920's and 1930's ambience, the spacious beautiful public areas, a famous, stunning beach on the doorstep one way and the buzz of a classy shopping area the other way. But there were a few things to grumble about. And I do think such a splendidly stylish historic five star hotel should be beyond reproach. Our room in the old section of the hotel had a wonderful view of Waikiki beach but it was a little tired and the lighting was awful -- dim and inadquate and with no overhead central light. Once again the fridge was bare, not so much as a bottle of cool water or juice. And the fridge had not been cleaned after previous occupants left. Most of the staff were great and as pleasant, polite and helpful as one would expect. A few were not. Least helpful was a woman on the concierge desk where you really might expect otherwise..But the biggest grumble goes to a new addition -- bursts of heavy floral perfume, a kind of synthetic frangipani, sprayed into the air intermittently in public areas. Absolutely not what I would expect in a such stylish hotel and a possible problem for those with allergies or asthma. The gardens fringing the hotel and the adjacent sea air are just fine without this awful stuff. On the up side, it's now possible to have tea or coffee in one of the charming arcades looking out on the garden. While the Royal Hawaiian may not be perfect it is a wonderfully elegant and relaxing beachside destination.

  • Our favourite hotel

by snipsnapsnorum on 2019-12-02 12:54 am

Great to be back although we only had a day to enjoy the hotel because we were on a cruise. We took some friends for lunch and the food was delicious. We have stayed here on a number of occasions and for us it is our favourite hotel of anywhere we have stayed. The staff are friendly and helpful but not bowing and scraping which some people like. Beautiful hotel and we will be back hopefully in the not too distant future. Definitely recommend for the comfort and location on Waikiki beach.

  • Historic Elegance on the sand

Great location, great service and great food. Easy access to Waikiki beach where you have amazing sunsets. Close to shopping and dining. If you are looking for a step back in history and a romantic holiday, this is the place.
