  • Comfort and Convenience all in one.

Enjoyed our stay at this location. Parking is a hassle if you choose to self park and not pay the fee to park in their structure for $23 a day or $43 for their using their valet service. The kids loved that we were in walking distance to Voodoo Doughnuts.

  • Backed up shower, contradicting statements from staff, room location seemed to be below the laundry room, lots of noise

Backed up shower, contradicting statements from staff, room sounded like it was below the laundry room, lots of outside noise. Charged extra for service, not worth the price. Won't stay at this location again

  • Nice hotel in scary part of town

by erestraviz on 2020-02-14 08:00 pm

I happened upon a Hilton event at Pioneer Square and was gifted a certificate for a one-night-stay as a Random Act of Kindness. I live in the area and was excited to have a little staycation. It was difficult to get a reservation. I had to call half a dozen times over several months before anyone would call me back. I emailed as well and had no luck there, either. I was finally able to make a reservation for Valentine's Day. When the time came my husband and I dropped our daughter off at her grandma's and we were excited for some swimming, room service and bad TV.

They wouldn't let us check in. We did not have the physical paper certificate. Though I had a photo of the certificate, the certificate number, and was willing to provide any other information they needed the woman at the front desk was unwilling to help us find a solution. So now that my Valentine's plans have been ruined I have some extra time to tell you more about this place. We're locals living downtown so I've gotten to know the area pretty well.

First I'd like you to know why we didn't have the physical certificate. About a week ago a homeless man attacked our car as we were driving home around 8:30 PM. We were keeping the certificate in the glovebox so we wouldn't lose it. Our car was sent in to be repaired and we forgot to grab the certificate. The homeless man attacked our car three short blocks away from the Embassy Suites. The same "three short blocks to the beautiful Waterfront Park" you'll hear about when you call them for the seventh time to try and make a reservation. In addition to our car being severely damaged, only two blocks from this hotel a woman tried to mace my 18-month-old as she slept in her stroller. This area of downtown in particular is one I avoid at all times of the day and night. Don't get me wrong: Kells and Voodoo Doughnuts are worth a visit, but I would not stay for a prolonged period of time, especially with children. And Waterfront Park is best accessed at SW Salmon St. (a full 8 blocks away from the hotel) due to the larger number of homeless people and druggies who hang out in the area near the Embassy Suites.

The hotel does look beautiful. And the swimming pool is a definite bonus. The location is one of the creepiest parts of Portland. Generally, the farther you get from the waterfront, the safer/nicer the area.

Here's my RAK for you: 3 hotels in nicer, more convenient parts of downtown Portland that are similarly priced. At the time of this review we were told the room at Embassy Suites would cost $279+tax

    1. Sentinel on SW 11th and Alder - beautiful with amazing artwork and great customer service
    2. The Heathman Hotel on SW Broadway and Salmon - the restaurant is renowned
    3. The Nines on SW 5th and Morrison - right in the middle of everything and a cool aesthetic and a great bar

    Owner Response
    Hello erestraviz,

Thank you very much for your review, and I am so sorry to hear about the complications during your stay. I do apologize that you went through so much trouble booking the hotel plus what you went through before staying with us. We work diligently with the city in hopes of improving the area. I hope we can make it up to you if you decide to stay with us again next time you're in the area.

  • Nice room

    by slpj2020 on 2020-02-12 02:17 pm

I stayed in a corner suite. The room is luxurious and spacious. The decor is updated, except for the bathroom. It appeared as if the bathroom had not received the same updates as the rest of the suite.

  • Excellent hotel and staff

Excellent hotel and staff, always accommodating, even down to brining a fan to our room because we are from alaska and the room was a bit warm due to the region in which we live. The free breakfast was convenient and the free social each night was a blessing. Great stay.
