  • Incredible

If you want to stay at this hotel, please choose a bedroom with sea view. This is the most beautiful view I ever seen. This experience was amazing. I'll be back soon. My wife was very happy by the charm of this hotel. 10/10

  • Even the seagulls seemed to be on strike !

    by stevem561 on 2019-12-09 11:57 am

I visited Le Grand Hotel des Sablettes Plage during the French strikes in December and it was so peaceful that I thought even the local seagulls had gone on strike ! The sound of water lapping against the seawall, the bright blue skies and taking breakfast on the terrace are memorable takeaways from the 3 night visit. The owners combine this most wonderful building with modern comforts to make it a classy hotel - and tastefully decorated for the Christmas holiday period. The staff, from various countries, working together in La Galerie and at reception were very pleasant and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Look forward to returning soon.

PS If you're feeling active take a walk (or run) up to the top of Saint-Mandrier - the view is amazing - well worth the effort.

  • Disappointing

by WicketEngland on 2019-12-03 03:56 am

We stayed at the Hilton for 6 nights in September. This hotel is in a great location at the end of Les Sablettes beach and on the main promenade.
We had booked a seaview room which was very nice and the room was comfortable if a little small.
The service at breakfast was very poor and disorganized and the quality and choice of food was very limited. The lady who was in charge of the service was always in a bad mood and it always seemed to much to ask for anything. I would not advise to buy breakfast here but to eat out in one of the many caf?s along the front. It will be much cheaper.
On our first day we also had lunch here which was inedible. I would have expected more of a Hilton Hotel. There are plenty of good restaurants in Les Sablettes.
The Spa which I expected to have access to is extra and a daily charge. It is quite a small spa and my husband had one treatment there but would not recommend it.
The outdoor pool is quite small and the seating area is very cramped with many chairs and tables.
There were also a lot of Conferences going on in the hotel and instead of putting the Conference guests in one area, they would all have their breaks beside the main pool with holiday makers.
All in all, this is a great location but I would not return to this hotel.

  • Awesome view - great service

by Jakobdublin on 2019-10-27 10:20 am

Had a really good time there. The view is just stunning and the staff is professional and genuinely friendly. The rooms - we had a sea view one on the second floor - are very clean and tastefully furnished. The free mini bar is the cherry on the cake.

We've got great recommendations for restaurants.
We'll be back for sure very soon.

  • Beautiful Property but Worst Experience Ever at a Hilton Resort

    by Rebes1110 on 2019-10-12 03:06 am

I generally only write reviews when I have an above average experience in a property, so this is unusual for me to negatively review a property, but three days later, I am still completely shocked by the way my family was treated at this property. My perception is that the property is designed only for couples without children and has no regard whatsoever for Hilton loyalty.

I travel weekly for business and have been a loyal Diamond level Hilton member for many years. We planned an 11-day trip to France back in February and were very excited about the prospect of spending three nights at this hotel. I had read so many glowing reviews, and I have a friend who has stayed here and was upgraded to a beautiful ocean-facing suite with a hot tub. I did not book this type of room, so I was hopeful that I would have the same experience but understood this may not be possible if the rooms were full.

We arrived at the hotel after flying to Marseille from Paris around 6 PM in the evening. We had planned to stay at the coast for four days and then had a return trip scheduled back to Paris on AirFrance. Upon check-in, the desk clerk asked if I had two adults, and I confirmed two adults and one child. She informed me that I had only listed two adults on my reservation. I did not deny this and did not even think anything of it. When I am booking Hilton properties in the app, I often don't pay a lot of attention to the number of adults and children listed. My husband and I have traveled multiple times per year to different countries with our very young son, and I have NEVER had an issue with this before and did not realize it was a problem. We always book a king sized bed as our son just sleeps with us on vacation, and we prefer a large bed to be comfortable. The clerk proceeds to tell me that it is illegal in France to have three people in a single hotel room, and they are not going to be able to check us into the room we have booked. I am taken aback by this because this is the third hotel in which we have stayed in France in the same week, and neither of the other Hilton properties mentioned this "federal law." I then ask her what sort of room she will move us to, and she explains that there is no equivalent hotel room AT ALL with three people unless we upgrade to a suite which will cost us $100 extra EUROS per night. I ask to speak with the manager, and he enters the picture and repeats exactly what the desk clerk has said (after she tells me that he is going to tell me the same thing.) I am very disappointed, but I explain that we don't want to pay this extra money (the rooms were not cheap to begin with), so we will sadly cancel our reservation and find something else. I am distraught about this because it is already 6:30 PM, and I don't know where we are going to go, and this was the part of the trip to which I was looking most forward.

It then gets worse as he states to me that we will still have to pay the price for the entire reservation because it is last minute, and we are outside of the cancellation policy. At this point, I am in tears -- we are stuck over a barrel, clearly we are now going to have to pay $360 more USD for this room, and, at this point, we just want to leave as this has all been so upsetting and so far from what we expected as this property. I am now in almost a full blown meltdown of tears, and the manager finally relents and tells us that we can move to a different type of room for two nights and we can cancel the third night if we wish as he has determined that we are within the cancellation policy for the third night. We feel that we have no choice, and we take our room key. The desk clerk then asks if we want armbands for the indoor pool after explaining to us that children are not allowed there. She is very surprised that we do not want the armbands. I don't want to be mean as I know none of this is her fault so I say nothing, but I am truly biting my tongue as I want to say "What am I supposed to do with my son while his father and I are splashing around having fun in the pool? Ask that he stand at the door and watch??!" Keep in mind there is also an outdoor pool, but it is not heated in October, and after feeling it, my husband and I both conclude that a polar bear would quickly exit -- it is that cold.

We check into our room, and it is a very small room with a double-sized bed as well as a very broken-down sofa bed that has a view of the parking lot. My son, who has witnessed all of this, is very upset at this point asking why the people at the hotel do not want him to stay there and if we can just leave. About an hour later, the housekeeper comes into our room, without knocking which seemed quite strange, and insists that she is going to unfold the sofa bed. We don't want the sofa bed unfolded as it is the only place we have to sit in the very small room, and my son and husband are trying to make the best of the situation and playing a card game. She calls the front desk, and the front desk gives us permission to wait a while before unfolding the bed. Ultimately, we went to the desk, and they said we didn't have to unfold it at all, but the whole experience was unsettling. It was as if they wanted to make quite certain we were actually going to use the sofa bed and not try to all sleep in the bed -- which would have been impossible anyway because it was so small.

We spent our evening on-line (which was free, thank goodness) trying to find a hotel online, which we finally did with the assistance of a friend back in the US who is a loyal Marriott member. We got up promptly the next morning and could not wait to leave the hotel and get to a place where we were actually welcome.

True to their word, even though we checked our before the check-out time of our first morning, they charged my credit card for two nights....... even though they certainly could have rented the room out to a second customer.

I completely take responsibility for not paying attention to the fact that I neglected to choose a 'child' on my reservation, I will certainly pay more attention to that small detail going forward, but I have never felt so unwelcome at a hotel in my entire life, let alone a Hilton property where I spend time almost every week out of the year.

My expectation would have been that they would have been able to find a larger room for us with a king size bed without charging us an extra fee due to the misunderstanding, or a very small fee, or at least only charge us for the one night we actually stayed. As we checked in at 6:30 PM, I find is highly unlikely that they actually rented out any of the ocean facing suites that they refused to let us have without paying an exorbitant fee.

We were so disappointed that we ended up taking the train back up to Paris the same evening to our new Marriott hotel, which was amazing. We called AirFrance to try to change our flight, but the price difference was $1,000+, so we purchased TGV tickets -- again, extra money and an entire day wasted of our France trip.

This was seriously the worst experience at a hotel I have had in my entire life. The property is lovely, but if you have children, I would definitely recommend you choose a different resort property while visiting the French Riviera.
