Just a short drive away from Great Southern Killarney, Muckross Abbey is an Old Irish Monastery & Modern Irish Graveyard. The abbey dates back to the beginnings of Christianity in Ireland and showcases the ruins of a very well preserved Franciscan friary founded in the 15th century. Muckross Abbey is free and open to guests year round.

Great Southern Killarney is located on the Ring of Kerry, which is a scenic drive with a circular route that features many beautiful sights and landmarks including rugged islands, white-sand beaches and dramatic mountain passes. The drive only takes roughly 4 hours, but is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace in order to enjoy all of the lovely sights and charming villages that Southern Ireland has to offer.
