  • Great Luxury hotel

    I've spent 2 nights in this well-located hotel. It is located in a wonderful historical dwelling. My suite was very comfortable, though a larger bathroom and separate toilets would have been even greater. great efficient staff.

    The Sofitel Legend The Grand hotel is an amazing 5 star hotel located in the center of Amsterdam. The hotel itself is huge and has a big courtyard in the middle. The interior oozes luxury and style but it is never too much.
    Service was excellent from the moment we parked our car till the moment we checked in - all the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.
    We were personally shown to our room and our luggage was delivered to our room a couple of minutes later.
    I opted for a Luxury room which was located on the 3rd floor and which was about 35m2.
    The room itself featured a big, very comfy bed, a desk, a sofa, a big smart tv, a Bose sound system, a Nespresso coffee maker and complimentary bottles of water and some nice cakes.
    There was a separate bathroom with a nice walk-in rainshower, a big bathtub with tv and complementary amenities from Herm?s Paris.
    And apart from that, there was also a separate toilet.
    From our room, we had a nice view on the canals of Amsterdam. The noise level was very good too as we hardly didn't hear any noise during our entire stay.
    I've already stayed in a lot of hotels in Amsterdam over the last couple of years, but this was without any doubt the best one !
    I will definitely be coming back to the Sofitel The Grand in the future.
    Highly recommended !

  • Not as good as expected

    This hotel is an oasis of calm among the chaos of Amsterdam which sits just outside its doors. The decor is beautiful and the bed is out of this world.

    I would like to make a special mention of Tomas who greeted us so warmly on arrival. Luca who made breakfast one of the highlights of our day and Fabienne who is nothing short of a super star! My husband and I could not be more grateful for all of the help and effort she went to in order to make our time in Amsterdam wonderful. Lastly we cannot forget the fabulous bar tender in Bridges, sorry we do not have your name.

    We stayed at The Grand for New Years Eve, we fully understand this is an exceptionally busy time for any hotel but anyone travelling at this time should mindful that Amsterdam is crazy busy and the good restaurants are booked months in advance. Due to this we were unable to dine at the hotel, although Fabienne did find us some other fabulous restaurants to go to.

    What this hotel is seriously lacking is a good bar. The hotel actively discourage you from drinking in the bar at the bridges restaurant, we are lucky enough to have been allowed into this bar on our first night and it was very nice. New Years Eve we were dining outside of the hotel but wanted to get a drink before leaving, it was not even 7pm so still early, the Maitre D at Bridges was exceptionally rude and would not allow us to get a drink and ushered us out telling us they were fully booked. A hotel bar is fully booked all night, except we could see all of the tables still empty. I went on to explain we have a dinner reservation so would be leaving in 30mins all we wanted was a glass of champagne to celebrate the NYE and that surely seeing whole room of empty tables we could have a quick drink as a hotel patron but still were told no. I was honestly shocked that a hotel of this standard would be so dam right rude and unaccommodating. We told we could go to the Flying Dutchman pub, this poor excuse of a bar is nothing short of a broom cupboard, it has 8 stools which were already taken and doesn't even have a wine list. Honestly it begs belief, we left the hotel and on recommendation went to a lovely hotel nearby who would accommodate us and enjoyed a wonderful glass of champagne in their bar. The lounge is another area one might get a drink if they are lucky but every time we were there unless you could find someone to stop and ask for a drink you would struggle to even get a coffee.

    This really did leave a sour taste in our mouth and sadly does not reflect well on what it meant to be a 5 star hotel. We would not stay here again.

  • Home away from home

    The staff greeting you by name as you enter sets the tone for this wonderful place. The rooms are well appointed immaculately clean and comfortable. Bridges restaurant well deserves its Michelin Star with its outstanding seafood and service. The Library is a quiet and relaxing place for an afternoon drink.
    The suites and apartments are very large and luxurious.

  • Good but not great

    Stayed again this year and it seemed more relaxed than last year. The room, 533 garden view, was very small. Comfortable enough for crashing but not so comfortable for sitting, reading and relaxing. The staff friendly and helpful if a little too much so from time to time. We booked inclusive of breakfast and had bacon and eggs which was good. Unusually for a Sofitel the coffee was quite good. They must have changed brands. All in a good hotel centrally located but not inexpensive.
