  • Great Location, BUT- a lot of homeless.

    Probably a 3 star joint, but the staff bumps it up a star. From the Valet dudes, Front Desk guy (I think?), and the great Bartenders, the staff at The Sam Houston is second to none.

    It's an older boutique hotel, so yes, elevators, and the rooms are on the smaller side. The twin beds might sleep 2 midgets comfortably. Might. Bathroom was clean, and they have coffee pods in the room.

    No pool, but there is a workout facility. The location is on the edge of sketchiness, as there's a lot of homeless, and panhandlers in the area. (Seems to be a byproduct of cities with Democrat Mayors, these days).

    Free Escalade shuttle. The older man driving the courtesy Escalade, was the coolest, and most professional cat in the hotel. Friendly driver, and he was always on time. Great bonus to this gem of a property.

    Bet on a return visit, next time I'm at an Astros game.

  • Great service!

    I Just wanted to acknowledge Amy, because she exemplified great customer service in the f&b department. The fries were amazing! As well as the burger and flat bread.

  • Aug 3rd 2019 Stay @ The Sam

    We've been visiting The Sam for a couple of years and have stayed there around 4 times as quick staycations when we want to hangout in downtown Houston. The location is great and the rooms are on par for the price. However, service of the front desk has noticeably gone down since we've first started going there. This past two visits that occurred over spring/summer have been less than stellar but the last one this past weekend was the most disappointing.

    Upon arrival the valet never came to the car, but instead motioned us to get out of the car and come to him at his stand with no offer of assistance with luggage. After getting our information he then directed us to the front desk. When we arrived at the front desk we were told our room wasn't ready, which for two reasons were very surprising since it was close to 4pm and the young man at the front desk never pulled up our reservations on the computer. He stated there were no rooms ready and he had no idea when one would be but check back in 45 minutes. I then asked about if he could store our bags and he said he could and took them to the back. When I asked about a ticket for the bags he stated that they were out and proceeded to pull open a desk drawer to show me were they should be and prove that he had none. He told me that I could simply "describe my bags and they will be gathered for us" While the young man was not really rude he was neither helpful or friendly. He did go on to say that "they were very busy and there was a wedding at the hotel that day" but again never offered a better solution than to try back in 45 minutes.

    Not satisfied with that answer I immediately called the Hilton Diamond Desk and explained how I felt about the lack of service I was getting. Amazingly after a brief moment of being put on hold and a call to the front desk by the person assisting me on the phone they were able to locate a number of rooms that I could choose from. Time on the phone was 10 minutes, I'm glad I didn't wait the 45 minutes as instructed.

    On top of the poor service I received from my initial visit to the front desk for check in. I wasn't provided drink vouchers for the bar and charged for breakfast even after letting the hostess and waitress know we were Diamond members of Hilton Honors. I'm waiting for a call back on refunding the breakfast charges to my credit card now.

    As mentioned before the location is great, the rooms are nice, the drinks are good but you may have to work at getting the quality of service that Hilton promises.

  • Overall just a sub-par Hilton

    The breakfast was good and free for diamond members but there is no executive lounge, just a bar that you get 2 vouchers for. The valet took a long time to get our car in the morning. Which was odd since I'm pretty sure there were less than 20 people in the hotel. Overall all if my trip mates agreed it was just a "meh" hotel

  • Historic property well situated in downtown Houston

    Wonderful meeting space, courteous staff, excellent room service and breakfast. Rooms have been renovated with contemporary walk-in showers. Only complaint would be that the bathroom lighting is a little Lon Chaney.
