The Statler

Overview
Heralded as America's first modern hotel, The Statler opened in January 1956. It boasted a cantilever architectural style that allowed for a decorative glass and porcelain exterior curtain wall in classic midcentury modern teals and vast open interior spaces. Amongst other countless progressive features, The Statler was the first building to ever have elevator music and offered separate elevator banks for service and guests. The hotel catered to businesses while offering entertainment seamlessly. It was the largest convention hotel in the southwestern United States, with a Grand Ballroom, and a fine dining supper club that hosted many famous acts including Tony Bennet, Liberace, and the Jackson 5.
The Statler has 159 guestrooms and suites, 219 private apartment residences on the upper 11 floors, a state-of-the-art concert venue, meeting facilities including a 14,500 square foot ballroom, four dining outlets, and retail and office space. As the epi-center of southeastern downtown Dallas, The Statler bridges the Central Business District, Farmers Market, the Arts District, and Deep Ellum. Main Street Garden serves as The Statler's front yard and keeps visitors returning for recreation, concerts, and special events. Across the street are the very first Hilton hotel and the original municipal building where Lee Harvey Oswald was detained and shot by Jack Ruby.
The Statler, a member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2018, dates back to 1956.
The Statler was the first building to ever feature elevator music and the first hotel to install new and custom 21” Westinghouse televisions in each guestroom and suite; it also uniquely featured a heliport on its roof.
